Folks

We are looking at providing a new shooting range complex/target sports centre of excellence outside the town of Charmouth. This will provide much needed quality facilities for us here in the SW.

It will be usable for Air Rifle/Pistol, C/F & R/F rifle and pistol (inc Black Powder), as well as Olympic and Field Archery.

It is expected to provide a 60m indoor gallery range facility with at least six firing points. (fully sound proofed)
A 100m indoor range with at least six firing points. (fully sound proofed)
A cafeteria and training/function rooms. Gun shop & Armoury.
Woodland Field target course for Air Rifle and Archery usage + 100m outdoor archery range.

All of this bookable on a pay to use basis!

Clicking the 'Submit Comment' button will allow you to have your say!

Naturally, we would be very grateful for all and any support. Please ensure your response is clear and covers the potential worries of security and most importantly, noise effect, as well as indicating the benefits to the local area!

Our thanks for those of you who have already submitted letters of support - please do write again online, as this is the last barrier we need to overcome before commencing the build!

Many thanks in advance for your assistance in this matter.

Ian Farrington

Oh Yes, yes, yes!

I will undoubtedly be helping with the construction, and eventually making use of the same. Smiler

The guy who owns the grounds is not a member here, and thus not in a position to post to AR regarding the planning.

Many thanks to those who have PM'd their support, all and any positive comments to the planning department are very welcome.

Rgds Ian

They wrote back offering the opportunity to speak for 3 Minutes at a planning meeting due to be held very soon.
Not a done deal yet.

I naturally put myself forward to speak to the planning committee, but have not yet had the courtesy of a response.

Will you be speaking Dave?

Good luck Ian, hope it goes well.

3 short minutes isn't even enough for Ghubert to get warmed up, let alone deliver a proper homily!

Alas, the date clashes with my planned trip to Lithuania.
Given the difficult choice between sitting in on a planning meeting waiting to deliver my threepenny worth and ambushing some unsuspecting boar, after much soul-searching and a phone call to Ian, I decided that my written contribution would have to stand for me and so I chose the Boar Big Grin

Coward????
Moi????

Are you suggesting that a Committee of Town Planners are scarier than a Sounder of Wild Boar?

Tell you what: You hunt the Planners, I'll hunt the Boar and we'll compare tusks and dentures afterwards Wink

Ian

I had a quick look at the submitted responses.

Not many of the unsolicited local responses appear to support the proposal. Where as the non resident, non local ones seem to love it.

Do local planning authorities pay any heed to non local, non resident responses? Would there not be grounds for appeal by those opposed to the scheme if they did?

I had a letter from West Dorset District Council today which says that the application was approved!
Good news I'm sure for all shooters in the area.

A copy of the decision notice can be viewed on: www.dorsetforyou.com/planning
