Are there any Euro bowhunters on these forums?

I am slowly getting sucked into this discipline and have been practicing with my bow as much as possible this summer.

Of course, like most fun things, bowhunting is illegal in the UK so I am looking at overseas locations to exercise this new passion.

I have done a little bit of bowhunting in south africa. Most has been from blind but also a little bit of stalking.
I find it to be a wonderful way to hunt. Would love to do more bowhunting in the future.

Yes, RSA is an option as my friend is getting married in Cape Town next year. Something to work towards.

I am not yet prepared to sit in a blind over a trough of water but maybe that will become more appealing after a few blank days!

I was thinking of an "only bow" hunting trip for next year in RSA.
This is what I got last year.

I would not sit at a waterhole with a rifle but do enjoy it with a bow. I don't know why.

Gentlemen
Welcome to the dark side! I have a modest battery of rifles but since I started bowhunting about seven years ago they have had little time in the field. Nothing beats that "close up and personal" excitement when you manage to stalk within an animal's natural protective zone with archery gear and make the shot. I have now taken everything from elephant to red duiker with archery gear so I guess I'm an addict!

Bog

Our Portuguese guys do bow hunts on a walk and stalk basis for reds and boar.

It ain't easy but I got within 20 yards of deer a number of times

Hi Bog,

I do quite a bit of bowhunting, it's legal in Italy, and we have quite a few opportunities too.

Nice one - what bow are you using and what species are you targeting? I understand it is important to be on a 'bow only' area when attempting spot and stalk archery as the game is a lot less flighty.

I use a 70 lbs Bowtech Destroyer 340 at 31" draw with a longish loop and a release that is a bit long in front of the trigger as my draw length is 32".
The total arrow weight is 615 grain and the arrow speed is 260 fps(chronoed).

The species I am targeting is Kudu, Red Hartebeest, Blesbuck, Bushbuck and Imapala.
I will also be looking for a good Steenbuck, Duiker, Warthog and whatever else I get an urge to shoot if I get the chance and can afford it Smiler
But since I am stalking with a bow, I am prepared to work hard for a few trophies Smiler
I doubt I will shoot lots of animals.
