Sound Mods whilst stalking

I was in the company of a stalker from the Highlands this weekend and the conversation got round to sound moderators. While I told him the virtues he was a little sceptical saying that none of the stalkers he knew used them.

After agreeing to disagree it finished with an invite to prove him wrong so I`m happy but we did raise the question which neither of us could answer.

"is there some reason we don`t see stalkers with sound mods in any photos of Highland stalking ? Is it deemed unsporting or is it more an issue of tradition ?

Can anyone shed light

Sound mods exist to stifle muzzle blast. Once you get past 150 or so yards on the hill muzzle blast is of lesser importance than the sonic crack and the thump of the bullet hitting the animal (or heather!)

I suspect they might be used a bit more on the hinds.
