The only way to keep dry legs and feet when stalking on fields at this time of year is to wear a pair of waterproof trousers over over your boots. If I attempt to wear normal trousers and gaitors my boots just fill up as the wet creeps down. I've used deer hunter waterproof trousers but they start to leak after about a month of use. I need a pair of lightweight rustle free breathable trousers that are waterproof and stay water proof. Any suggestions?

1894, I bought some Mossy Oak trousers in winter weight last season and thhey were excellent. They were on special offer at £30 a pair. The saddlery and gunroom also had a lightweight pair of waterproof and breathable trousers too. Given it was -6 at the time I went forr the heavy ones but they have never leaked and they have a velcro fastener that you can tighten around the tops of your bootsto stop the rain getting in and your laces getting caught while giving some ground clearance. they are that microfleece type of materiel so quite quiet. rgds, FB

1894, Here they are from Cabela's. They ain't cheap but they are lightweight, silent, occaisionally available in solid colors (call) & wear them as a single garment or over other pants. These are WATERPROOF - you can sit in water with these on and stay dry. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/sta...cat470082&hasJS=true I have the jacket & pants and wouldn't be caught hunting without them - especailly in the UK. Have Fun! Cheers, Number 10

I have a pair of canvas 'jeans' from Cabelas that are GoreTex lined. They have a soft poly lining inside to keep you comfortable. I wear them to work in the Pacific NW and they work like rain pants. Those of you who wear a rain jacket and jeans know how wet your thighs get. With these I stay perfectly dry. It takes a number of washings to soften them up but they are pretty quiet when broken in. Priced around $60.00 I think.

1894mk2, Artkis do a pair of relatively lightweight "combat" trousers in either DPM or plain green..I think the outer is a rip stop cotton or something similar. They are lined with a breathable membrane of some sort.. I had a pair for while, and they were pretty bomb proof...They weren't as rustle free as i would have liked but they weren't too bad and they got quieter after a few washes.. Artkis or their sister company UK Seat Covers usually have a stand at the bigger gamefairs so you can try before you buy... regards, Pete

I too have had the arktis trousers for over a year now, never been wet in them, think they are really good. The outer cotton/ripstop does get wet but dries in a very short time. Have just purchased their waterproof jacket too, seems like the jacket I have been looking for in years. Very lightweight, loads of well designed pockets (breast pockets will take Leica 7x42 easily), well fitted hood. Price on these garments are probably more than some other brands, but the quality is brilliant! As Pete says go check them out at the gamefairs, oh yes they come with a guarantee too! Good Luck in your quest (reckon we are all on it!)

1984 You are getting a bit soft in your old age! What with your ears packing up and everything perhaps you should take up golf! Here is another option, wear a pair of lightweight fast drying trousers - I have very good pair of olive green rohan trousers. Or, if you can get your hands on a pair without paying Jeagersports prices, try a pair of Fjallraven trousers. They do a variety of hunting trousers, some with drop-in goretex. ------------------------------ Richard VENARI LAVARE LUDERE RIDERE OCCEST VIVERE

1894, I have a pair of Sasta trousers they are lightweight and were fully waterproof for at least 6 months!! You could sit on the moss without getting your a!!e wet, but not now!!This seems to be the problem with all the goretex range, great at first! Going to have to find something for this years work on Arran. regards griff

Richard - doesn't work - the wet wicks down the material into the sock and then the boot. After one field you have about half a pint of water in each boot......

Wellington boots if the dew is heavy, usually with monsoon leggings on top..

Deerdogs, I have a jacket made by Fjallraven that I bought in February. IanF decided to take me out to test it and it worked very well indeed!! Considering the rain was falling sideways and heavy I didn't get at all wet or cold. Rgds, FB
