Anyone made real alterations to your shooting vehicle/s ?, I have recently boarded out the complete roof area on my Land rover, Now the options are off the tailgate, as before, with the addition of fully prone with room for lamp man/spotter alongside, or even sitting comfortably in a fishing type seat over sticks! BOOM

Funny you should say that. We are doing the same thing as this point in time.

Ghubert have seen our project car. We bought a 100 defender from EBAY ! about 08 weeks ago and it is being stripped and modified in the workshop now. I must put you in touch with my varmint buddy (PM his email address) and you guys can exhcange ideas. He is the technical one not me. He does all the welding himself.

We did plan to put a shooting platform on the roof but according to him the weight mighgt cauase a strutural issue. Now we are having a sun roof put in in the rear with raised seats.

I will post some pictures when I get home of progress to date.

A bit offtopic, but:
From your replies it seems that shooting from a vehicle and using a spotlight is allowed in UK?
I didn't know that...
It's banned in our neck of the woods, which is idiotic at times.

We mortals are barred from shooting game such as Deer from a "moving" vehicle or with the aid of artificial light, but the powers that be can authorise their agents to do so, Vermin on the other hand, Rabbit/Fox etc; ..No hiding place! wave

Am I correct ?

Although I have never had the priledge to do so.

I recall this was one question in the DCS certification exam paper.

I have modified several over the years. With varying degrees of success. Adding weight above the mid line of any vehicle is never to be recommended without beefing up the suspension etc as you effectively raise the vehicles centre of gravity.

Having been in a few roll overs it's not something I relish being involved in again.

If you need heigh invest in a lightweight free standing high seat.

I have many lightweight , midweight/ & heavyweight/permanent high seats out on the ground,, notice no typo's, (so far) unlike my respondent!, The vehicle has been made more utilitarian for people who need to cover all sections of their remit at a moments notice, as I stated earlier many many lease/landowners rely on us to produce results, with greater demand during lambing season, & as the vehicle is stationary, I would be surprised to find rollover to be a condition encountered whilst in use as a shooting platform, I can almost hear the designers of battlefield support 4x4s gasping in fear over the perils they may have placed our troops in from rollover events due to pintle mounted .17HMRs & belt fed .223s jumping

Make a landie more utilitarian. rotflmo

Now I've read it all! Made my day that has. animal

Pitch and roll only comes into play when the vehicle is in motion. Bolting 20KG to the roof of an alli skinned landie in order to provide a perch might seem a mighty good idea to some. It certainly doesn't appeal to those that have witnessed the effects when external forces reap their revenge when you're least expecting them.

Still its your neck. Does Cheshire have a good paraplegic hospital?
