Anyone have reliable contacts and/or experience of Boar hunting in Poland, or other former Eastern bloc states?, I am about to contact the Polish embassy for any info they might provide, but thought A R might be more productive!

Try http://www.diana.dk/; it's probably the biggest hunting tour operator in Europe. I've booked 2 stag hunts in Poland with them in 2006, 2007 and I will go there again next week. They have good connections with many eastern Europe government agencies, their prices are reasonable and they are reliable

I would disagree that Diana is the best agency on the market. They are certanly the biggest but their quality and price is not great either. Most of my clients complain on Diana's operation ect. which is good for smaller outfiters as I am. I worked as an agent for years for some of the biggest agencies in the world and I must say that they promissed too much and asked us to deliver what we can. After hunting we've had many confrontations with clients who expected more than we could deliver. Poland is still good destination for hunting driven game but with great lack of boar and lots of deer in the last few years. More and more hunters ask me to take them to Croatia. In Croatia you can't hunt driven deer but there is plenty of boar. The problem in hunting today is that most outfiters organise hunts without knowing the lands, habits ect. which can result with bad experience. They employ some local guy as an agent and that's it. I'm Croatian and I know it well. It is the same problem in other countries as well. I intend to go with every group rather than ask some of my mates to act as an agents in Croatia. It has to be fair play. In the last 5 years all rich Polish hunters go hunting abroad because they say that Poland was great long time ago.

I've never said that they are the the best, but I booked 3 times with them for Poland, I've always been satisfied and had no complaint whatsoever. I've heard rumors about financial issues afterward my first post (actually I was already in Poland); I'm waiting the final balance from Diana, since they owe me about 150€. Within a couple of weeks, I will be able to say something concrete about their solvency. Of course, I currently would not encourage anybody to book with them..... P.S. I've just received the final balance from Diana and I owe them 200€; after a quick check I realized that they are right....my bad. Consequently, I will not be able to say anything concrete about their solvency.

Sorry! I read wrong.I'm sure you've had good experience but all my clients are ex Diana's because of bad hunts. A guy from Norway called me today and he said that Diana went bust but some rich businessmen want to save it. Hm... I'm not sure what to believe but all I know is that Diana is not good anymore. I think that all the outfitters became to greedy and they lost personal touch with their clients. That's what I don't want to do.

All I can say, it's that last year, with the final balance, Diana sent me an offer to rebook the same hunt, with a small rebate (I accepted). Few days ago, with the final balance I got no offer.... Furthermore I got a word from them, that one of the persons responsible for Poland no longer works for Diana.

You can hunt wild boar in so many different countries throughout the world. I have been going to Belarus for around 5 years now, so this article relates mainly to Belarus but aspects apply equally to other European and East European countries. If you want a large trophy male, the only way to hunt these is from high seats and the best time is at night when there is a full moon. Winter months are the most popular as snow on the ground can give the best light and it's almost like daylight on these nights. The guide will point out the kind of animal you should shoot which would have been discussed before your outing. In Belarus it's compulsory that you have an interpreter at hand during your stay (the interpreter would not normally be out hunting with you), so before you go out with your guide, make sure you have understood all the instructions. If the population of boar has risen too high, there may be some districts which offer animals at a discount during the summer to encourage paying customers to contribute to the cull. The success rate is very high and during 5 nights, it is possible to shoot 2 or 3 good 'Keilers' up 20cm... You can stalk for male Boar in Belarus from 15May to 30.Januari. Mr.Krautgartner and Mr.Kraus in Belarus The driven Boar season in Europe usually starts in October and finishes in mid January. In Belarus driven Boar only from 15.10 to 15.12. Driven Boar is something else....and I have to confess to being utterly addicted to this sport. The emphasis is not on large trophies. If you hear of many large medal quality tuskers being shot during a driven hunt, then almost certainly the boar will have been shot within a fenced area. One great attraction about going to Belarus (apart from the low price!) is that 100% of the areas are unfenced. Other countries such as France, Germany, Hungary, Bulgaria often conduct their drives within fenced areas. Calibres of .270 and above should be used. Most folk expect to shoot with open sights, but it is a big mistake to change to open sights if you are used to using a 'scope. I use a variable power 'scope and when using my rifle for driven boar, I rack the 'scope back to its lowest power which is 1.5. Besides, the light may begin to fail during the last couple of drives, so the light gathering properties of a 'scope are very useful. Some shots may be taken at 20 metres, but others at up to 100 metres. Not all your shots will be made at game running flat out - pigs have a habit of halting and looking/listening if they think the beaters and their dogs have moved away. It's now a legal requirement that your rifle telescope should be 3X or less - so a variable 'scope which goes down to 3X or less is OK. The larger the group the better. Groups of 10 or more rifles mean there is always action going on somewhere! Small drive hunts with 4 or 5 in the group is perfectly possible, but as you can imagine, it's a more sedate affair. The most popular format is for 3 days of driven shooting with 4 nights stay in the hunting area. The cost is surprisingly low and it is possible to find such a programme for around up 800€ depending on the exchange rate with the Euro The most suitable hunting locations are in the Belavezhskaya National park, Berezinsky Biosphere Nature Reserve, Narochanski National Park, Pripyatky National Park and the Blaslau Lakes National Park Hunting: driven hunt, hide, stalking Stay: 3 days/4 nights Trophy: tusks Possible extra charges: - Second rifle entry permit: 50 € Notes: Group (3 hunters): 800 € Additional hunting day: 150 € Trophy cost: from 150 € Price Includes: - Invitation letter and a voucher to obtain Belarusian visa; - 1 rifle and up to 200 cartridges per hunter entry permit; - Belarusian custom fee for your gun; - Belarusian hunting licence; - Transportation from the airport to the hunting estate and back; - Transportations at the hunting ground; - Full board accommodation in hunters lodge or hotel in double room; - Hunting accompanied by a huntsman; - Interpreter from the moment of your arrive till departure; - Preparation of your trophy; - International veterinary certificate for your trophy. Price Excludes: - Belarusian visa (obtained in Belarusian Consulate in your country or in Minsk airport upon arrival); - Air ticket; - Beer and alcoholic drinks; - Tipp; - Phone and fax calls, Internet connections, personal expenses
