Hi All,

I've managed to get about a bit recently in the name of sport!!

I had a few days in Ireland courtesy of work to do some salmon fishing with customers (I couldn't believe my luck!!)

Then a Weeek in Argentina with my dad and my Brother followed by 3 days with a mate Salmon fishing again in the west of Ireland.

Somewhere in there a weekend on the mayfly and sea trout fishing in Cork got lost to the weather but hey -ho... Big Grin

Anyway just thought I'd share a few pictures with you lot.

Me after I fell into the river. Managed to save getting full waders and going under the boat by about 3 inches litterally!!

Some of the Ducks from a morning Flight between Me and Dad. The only time in my life I can ever remember outshooting him!! This place had a lot of ducks. Good sport. I took 5 species in the day and didn't take my chance at some easy teal on the way out to make it 6 species.

This Buck was taken by accident out of a group of 4 while trying to finish my dads wounded animal that had run. Something got lost in translation in the couple of seconds I had to shoot and I ended up with 2 Antelopes!! The wounded animal was apparently later collected. The seecond buck is a much better head but I consider the first to be my trophy. Both will be mounted.

I suppose now it is time to look forward to thhe Fallow buck season ffor some sport.

Mind you there are some bass being caught according to my mate in Norfolk.... Wink

Regards,
FB

Arild, it's a blackbuck antelope from India.

They are very nice photos, as always Fallow Buck.

Thanks again!

Nice pics mate.
How difficult was the blackbuck hunt? I have heard the shooting can take place at long range. Were there any other exotics on offer?
I would love to take an Axis buck one day.

Oh yea, nice salmon too! I will try my luck with King salmon in August, but that is sea fishing and not 'angling'!

BTW I just noticed the second buck has unusually good spread!
They should make a striking mount.
Sounds like your home will be filling out pretty soon eh?

Arild,

I was using my Sauer 202 in 308. The first buck with the satraight horns was shot at 180m and dropped on the spot. The second buck was taken at about 50m and staggered about 15m before roling over. He was heart shot.

The bullet was a federal factory loaded 165gTSX. I find these loads quite destructive on meat but highly effective. I personally think that the load is going too fast. The website claims 2700fps but I seem to think that the box said 2850....) When I shot a slightly less punchy homeload, then I didn't have much meat damage at all with the same bullet.

Bog,

Yes the secod buck has a wide spread and a very good mass but my personall preference is for the straighter more parralel configuration.

I spoketo the African taxidermist yesterday and it looks like they will be ready to ship next week. I can't remember if I posted these:

The other half has already started grumbling about the Eland going over the stairs!!!

FB,

Nice looking trophies! Good luck with the other half and the eland Smiler. When we got my eland it sat in the middle of our living room for 2-3 days before we could figure out where the hell to put the thing. I knew it would be big, but until you get it in a small space, the size just does not compute! We eventually got everything situated, but it took some doing. If you have a nice high stairway that's probably much better than what we ended with here.

FB,

As always, you have provided us with great pictures of your exploits! Smiler

I also see you are wearing your "Terminator spectacles" as usual. No wonder you always hit your targets. Big Grin

FB - those waders look suspiciously shiney!!

Very nice report and photos - sounds like an action packed couple weeks.

Is there anything you can do to avoid topping up if you fall in whilst wearing them? Strikes me that trying to swim in filled waders would be only marginally less exciting than poking a large boar with a sharp stick!!

Good luck on them thar fallow - any decent bucks out on the ground now that the season is closed?

The waders get smeared in mud before I go away otherwise my mate Ken accuses me of being the Pall Mall man straight from the photo shoot!!

Topping up in waders is actually quite a dangerous thing as the water acts as ballast and the current sucks you under. There is a belt that you wear to stop your feet filling up wwhhich allows you some control to right yourself. The other thing s that most guys fishing faster flowing water will wear life vests fueled byt the small CO2 canisters used in modern airguns.

I haven't seen any bucks out recently (but then not having any roe I dopn't have a lot of incentive to get out of bed at 1-30 to go and check!!!) but we do still have a couple of Foxes kicking about despite your and PeteE's best efforts last year!!

Erik,

The terminator glasses go with me everywhere and still draw some funny looks in the more remote areas!! Buut then when you cast a fly lke I do then it 's a case of wear the glasses or get the piercings!!

FB,

I too find that when it comes to sunglass, function beats fashion. Thus, I have been on the receiving end of some comments and looks regarding my Oakleys, just like you. Wink
