I am travelling to Belgium in Feb 07 on business and would like to do a little hunting on the trip as well. I have never hunted Europe but i have hunted in many other places(africa, alaska, canada, us) so I consider myself a seasoned hunter. Any suggestions would be helpful?
Thanks

In Flanders, roe (doe and fawn) will be open. However, be aware that there's no such thing as public or commercial hunting in Belgium. All hunting land is leased privately (and at high cost, which explains why small Belgium is probably the most expensive European country to hunt in). The only way to proceed is to be invited by a local hunter who accepts to go through all the red tape* necessary to obtain a temporary licence for 5 days in a particular territory.

*not having passed the official hunting exam, you'll need legalized certificates of Belgian citizens vouching for you. You will also need proof of a valid hunter's insurance. Weapon transport without an European Firearms Passport will also cause problems, so it would be easier to borrow an gun locally.

All in all, it is possible but not easy. Be prepared for a lot of legwork and formalities.

5 shots are a group.

If you have the time to spare, you would probably find it easier to hop on a cheap flight and do your stalking in the south of England..If you take a look around http://www.deer-uk.com it will give you an idea whats avilable and whats in season..

If you are content with borrowing a rifle, it should be a relatively easy thing to organise. I don't know of any commercial stalking outfits down there I could recommend, but I am sure others here could..

Regards,

Pete
