Nope, this isn't about the RSPB and raptor persecution...

I got the call today that the 260rem has arrived. I can't get a look at it or any photo's yet so I'm still on tenterhooks, but the scope is on and the load is starting to be worked up for it.

Due to computer issues I can't get any pics yet but I should have something in the next couple of days.

Looking forward to the pics.

From memory was it a Stiller action?

While we are waiting for the pics can you give us a run down of the component parts?

Hi Jon,

It was a Lawton action, lothar barrel, jewel trigger and looks like a Jet-Z Mod. Can't remember the scope but Ian will know. I think it is a Leupold VarX III with the B+C reticle.

I'm busting to get a look at it myself!!

K

FB, looks good. I like the shape of the stock.

Scope mounts seem a little high, how do they line up with your eye?

Any range time yet?

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

Claret,

Yes the Picatinny rail causes the scope to be a bit high, so I'm looking at sorting that soon. I have yet to handle it. RIck is with the gun at the range right now working a load up for me so we hope to be out hunting in the next couple of weeks.

I think this is one of the problems of not being physically present during the development process of somehting new. I think unless you can actually pick it up and feel it the gun will need tweaking.

The PES mod came back completely wrong, so I ditched it and am using a Jet-Z for now.

Overall I'm looking forward to getting it in my hands.

Rgds,
K

Yes it looks the biz. The Jet Z looks great too. Why don't you stick with that?

Let us know how it performs down range when you get there. I would be very interested in the results. I reckon it will be a one holer.

Cheers

Jon

Here is a group I was sent using 140gr partitions over 44grains of Hodgdon H4831SC.

We didnt Chrono it but judging by the data we have we expect it to be doing about 2650fps.

Apparently they group in a 5p coin. I think thats much bigger than 6.5mm....

I'm picking it up on Sunday mng and might send a few rounds down range just to get aquainted. In the menatime I suppose I'll have to take Old Faithfull out on saturday evening for a farewell stalk, as I don't think it will see much use this season!!

10.3x60, the Leupold is a 4-14 x 50 with B+C

Knowing my luck I'll miss the first deer I come accross cos I'mso excited about the gun!!

Have to agree. That is a misearble looking performance. Big Grin

Actually what makes it even better is the fact that in my experience Partitions are not inherently accurate. They are my favourite performance bullet but I never got them to do anything in any rifle I have had. Superb and great pics

FB, Jon makes a good point, if it shoots partition that well, it will shoot anything.

What happened the PES went pear-shaped?

Gidday FB,

What do you think you are doing puting up dirty pics like that? That is just pure gun porn and it gets us all too excited when you start flaunting the likes of those pics around.

Especially as I have just given my son my model seven 260 for his birthday. Darn I have to aquire another for myself now. Bugger.

While the 140 partitions will do a good job in my humble opinion you might be better off with the 125 partition or 130 AB for the smaller UK deer and the reds. I have taken to using 120 ballistic tips exclusively as I found I was wasting alot of the bullet energy on the hill behind the target with the 140 partitions. They worked ok but the ballistic tips gave me more DRT.

You should bring that rifle with you when you come out for your Tahr hunt. It would be perfect.

Happy Hunting

Hamish

Hi K

This is a bit off topic but it seems that due to a few scientific tests the Jet Z comes out tops in noise reduction (the PES was second to the Jet Z btw) stir

Just from my own experience, the Jet Z is one of the best I have used (if it aint broke, don't fix it methodolgy)

Best

Jon
