Well it is an trophy hunt. The skin is of VERY high quality and it is very decorative. Short hair fur, leopard pattern sometimes. And of course the meat is very good. Most used cal... well... Dont know, but a 270W is a very nice choice. Minimum cal allowed is 6,5x55 SM

Here in Iceland you can hunt as many seals as you want, all year around, local or foreigner hunters alike and you dont have to pay a dime for any license!

You can even shoot walrus if you see one!

Has anyone here shot a walrus? That would be a great conversation piece!
Are you sure about the open season on whales? If the Japanese knew of something like that, the sea would go red...

The term is HARVESTING

T3Shooter:

Why is eating an animal morally superior to hanging its head on the wall or making a rug from the skin?

Not at all, perhaps I should qualify my post. If the seals in Norway are behaving similarly to the Australian fur seals then shooting them wouldnt provide any challenge, hence my harvesting comment. On the other hand I havent even been to Norway and I should probably keep my big mouth shut.
Cheers

Boghossian,
there is no Icelandic law that states that one cannot go to sea and hunt a dolphin or a porpoise, drag it home and have the wife prepare it for dinner.
It is however forbidden to commercially hunt whales for export, a slight difference.

The average hunter would of course be somewhat limited to hunting the smaller whales, thus excluding the great big ones people tend to be so sensitive about.

Whalemeat can be great to eat, I prefer meat of the smaller species like those mentioned hereinabove.

Btw. there is no shortage on either dolphins or porpoises in Icelandic waters.

Regards
