does anyone have experience of these heads in 6.5 cal. on large game. What weights did you manage to recover form the carcuss, shot consistence and effective range. I would post this in the Africa forum, but I fear I would be swamped with details of all of the other manufactured heads that we can't get in this country. This is for a plains game hunt, up to kudu calf size. But I am interested in the ballistics performance on fallow and reds. I am aware of the copper fouling problems experienced with the old Barnes X , and wonder if the triple shock is any better. The comparison between Barnes and Partition is so that I can gauge which one has performed better in other peoples rifles/opinions.

Puntgunner, For your plainsgame trip just go with the TSX. THese animals although similar in size and weight do our fallow or reds, are in no way comparible as far as the bullet choice is concerned. They just seem to be so much more solid... The TSX gives excellent penetration, accuracy (in my rifle at least), and delivers a hell of a blow. In a 6.5 calibre shoot something around 150 grains if you can get them but be aware that the back order on barnes bullets is a nightmare. Esp TSX. If yu really struggle I might be able to sort you out some 130gr pills through our local shop. They will do everything bar Kudu/BW& of course Eland. If you have a 308/30-06 opr 9.3 then consider it for the trip as you might get out there and really want to take that Eland bull that turns up unexpectedly!! Rgds, FB

I have a custom swede and my "big" game bullet is the 140g partition.I have shot lots of fallow with this bullet and have never recovered one ( i like that) i also shot a black bear with one and never recovered that one either. Penetration is attributed to the sectional density off the bullet, the "SD" of the 140g partition is 0.287 in the .30 cal you would have to go to a bullet weight of 200g to better that or the 180g with an SD of 0.271. Also the faster the bullet impact velocity the more the bullet will expand therefore reducing penetration. I should be Bear and Elk hunting at the moment but due to a bad leg injury i have had to cancel it, my ammo of choice 140g Nos Partion over a heavy dose of RL22. As far as the TSX is concerned i beleive that they are to "tough and expensive" for the animals that we have to offer in this country, but given my own trials with them in 130g i would think you should have no problems at all. the above veiws are mine and mine alone good luck B

I don't know which calibre your are shooting, but in my 6.5x57 the 140 grains Partition does an excellent job (and I'm convinced it's pretty close to a 270Win loaded with 150 grain Partitions). Always an exit wound and the heaviest animals I've shot with it were a 120 kg red stag and a 80 kg wild boar. I read only good reports on the TSX and thats why I just ordered some 120 grains TSX to find out how they perform. I'm still waiting for their arrival so can't give any reports yet.
