I am thinking of decorating a room with Trophies and a few cartridge display board I have found a few web sites selling them but I find them all pedaling virtually the same thing and charging a lot for what it is. I have also considered making a few boards myself where should I start ? I am thinking of a theme around my hunting experiences and build it up over the years Any designs that's usual that you have come across ?

I think your design might be governed by the materials you can get your hands on.. I have a small board picked up from one of the Gamefairs and its been made with a standard wooden picture frame that covers a "shallow box" that holds the cartridges.. The inside of this box is lined with a green "beize", which the cartridges are glued to..The tittles and other lettering is on white card, and looks like it could be printed off quite easily on a standard home PC/ Printer.. I would start looking for suitable materials at some where that sells picture framing supplies, also take a look at how pictures and photos are framed professionally and I think it will give you all the clues you need.. Something different from the norm e.g I am thinking of 05 boards to decorate 02 wooden panel walls. 1 Current calibers commonly in Europe 2 Current calibers commonly used in Africa 3 Current wildcats used in Europe etc 4 Current D.G. cartridges - my passion 5 Current military cartridges etc etc Any input anybody ?

I'm sure a little imagination will solve any issues building a cartridge board. When I visited your country I stayed with David and Sue Little. At that time they were in the process of desinging a cartridge board for sale, They were putting a lot of work into it and I belive the finished board was very expensive. I remember at the time thinking that I would never pay that kind of money for something I could build myself. Their boards were very nice and probably nicer than anything I would build but just not worth the money to me. If you wanted to consider one of theirs you could contact Kynoch or better yet ask about single cartridges so you could do your own. DRSS NRA life AK Master Guide 124

Never knew that I know David OK but he never mentioned that he makes a cartridge display board When you stayed with him then was the tunnel built ?

I assume you mean the underground range. It was not finished but it was along enough to use. I shot my 8mm double rifle there and one of Davids doubles. I don't remember now if it was his .35 or the .405. That was in 2000 I don't know that may have been the last ones he built. DRSS NRA life AK Master Guide 124

LH, Make sure they are dummies loaded with solids mate unless you are licenced to hold expanding heads in all calibres. I've never heard of t being an issue but you know what some people can be like these days... K

One thought is instead of using the green beize for the back ground, how about an old photo relating to the cartridge involved??? The picture would need to be large enough to still be reasonable visible behind the cartriges...

I ended up buying a framed 3 shelf type with glass doors that was made for holding model cars or trains. The issues I ran into: 1. Seems the 'collection' is never done, what I mean is you are always adding to it, which throws sequence out the window and you end up bumping them around to make them all fit. If you have what you are calling a complete collection and will never add to it you can plan pretty good from there, but chances are it will never be complete. Somewhere, someday, you'll pick up this or that oddball, wildcat or whatever and have to 'add' it to your collection 2. My second biggest problem is trying to put them in some type of order . . . for instance, all 6.5s or 7s in a nice pretty row. Problem is that some are really long and don't fit in the space, i.e., hit shelf above. 3. And my last problem kind of mirrors the first one, it's NEVER done That and one bump and they all fall over. Haven't figured out a good way, without supergluing them, so they stay put. I don't want to glue them, it's nice to be able to inspect them. And I have a lot of hours invested in polishing them up. You get a loaded round, I pull bullet, dump powder, knock out spent primer, reseat bullet, and polish it up. OK, a few is no biggee, but I've done that to a couple hundred already. But on the other hand, I like the collection and it's cool, good luck on yours, there are worse things or should I say more expensive things to collect!! This type board I did not like, still have it, but it does not hold very many: What I settled on, at least for the time being until I think up something better: -------- There are those who only reload so they can shoot, and then there are those who only shoot so they can reload.
