There is quite a bit of hunting in France, its the European nation with the highest percentage of hunters as part of the population. For big game hunting easiest will probably be to join a battue or driven hunt for boar or roe deer. There are some hunting places you could try for a package: Acteon: http://www.acteon.asso.fr/ For big budgets there is always Club Faune Here is the website for the French National Hunting Office, so you can get info for getting a short term permit for non-French citizens. http://www.oncfs.gouv.fr/

Hi StuC. I can almost see Haguenau from my window. Be my guest anytime, we will have fun. Hi Erik D Outside urban areas, hunting is very common, but if you ask around in citys (Oslo especially...) the majority of people have distanced themselves from what goes in nature (and often the real world...) and have become anti hunting. You trade Oslo for Paris and you get the French status. I am 50 and I remember the recent time when we hunters were more than 2 millions. The number of hunters is quickly decreasing and hunters are older and older. We do our best to seduce the young : lending our hunting lodge to the young, showing them what is real hunting, calling them to beat during driven hunt, Giving them examples and entertainments, letting them hunting for free.. Bad news, less and less small game. Good news, more and more big game. The wild boars are overwhelming the whole France for 2 years and its getting a real nuisance .The roe buck is blooming. The red stag is growing even if one may be fined because one failed to shoot the requested minimum. Regards Jean Bernard

I may be looking at a short trip to France later this month and although I won't be there for hunting, I would like to learn what there is availiable or what the area is most renowned for. Is there anyone here who might want to meet for a drink in Paris?

Hey Jean Bernard, You're probably only 3 hours from me in Zurich. I've stayed around Hagenau a couple of times. That must be pretty close to you. We'll have to catch up sometime for a beer or glass of good Alsace wine! I'd love to hear more of your hunting. Last time I was in your area I saw a pheasant running down the side of the road.

Quote: Chasseur, I am a bit curious about those figures as I was under the impression that there were several European countries with a higher percentage of hunters. The list I have goes like this: Finland, 5.6 % Norway, 4.5 % Sweden, 3.5 % Denmark, 3.45 % Ireland, 3.42 % Portugal, 3 % France, 2.8 % I found these figures in a Norwegian hunting magazine a year ago, and since I have used them as arguments in a debate it should be very interesting (and a little alarming ) if they were wrong. Any information appreciated! Sorry for being OT. Regards, Martin

Dear Express, A pity I don't live in Paris but in Strasbourg beneath the german border. Paris is definetely not a city where the hunters abound. I have a couple of hunter friends in Paris but there is a big problem. The French are known not to be able to speak fluently any foreign language. It's far easier to find hard-drinker. Be sure I'll go to a lot of trouble to provide you with a nice chap to untertain you. Keep me in touch. Should you have time enough, why not join me in Alsace. Ill be glad to break a couple of laws so that you get a nice boar or a (now bald) roe buck.Stag is feasable but trickier. Friendly. Jean Bernard jbderunz@wanadoo;fr
