I would like to bring your attention to the issue of lead in ammunition which is currently the subject of investigation by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), to which the Countryside Alliance have responded, which is likely to be discussed in Europe imminently.

Lead contamination, what a load of crap!

I was (and still am) astonished to see the level of lead use here. The amount of lead that's used just on the outside of houses for flashings is beyond anything I've ever seen. Then there's the fact that many older homes still use lead water pipes!! So a few lead slugs flying around should be of little worry.

I know. But go tell that to the enviromentalists.

Their world wide lobby is huge and well connected. Why else do you think the anti hunting, AR campaigners have hitched the wagon to their train?

Fight it, fight it and fight it more!

I live in California and we banned lead a few years ago to help save the California condor and it was pure political BS. The California fish and game wardens (not Gamkeepers, but the law enforcement for game laws) did a study to see the effects of lead ammunition on condors and found no correlation. They found that lead contamination in the California condor was caused by high levels of lead in the water in their environment.

However the politicians that want to ban guns took this as an opportunity to create one more gun law and ignored the studies and findings and passed the law anyway.

The big problem is that copper/lead free bullets have not reached the maturity that lead and bonded lead have and they just do not perform as well. On top of that many rifles will not spin stabilise the copper bullets due to the extra length required of copper bullets to achieve the same mass. So your favorite rifle could be put out of commission with copper. I have several slow twist .243's that were great deer rifles that will not shoot copper.

Organize and fight it tooth and nail, team up with the gamekeepers, clay shooters, countryside alliance and band together.
