Hello all,

As I have been told that I am spending Xmas with the inlaws this year in Dublin, I've done what any of us would have done and booked a couple of days local sport while I'm there!!

In fact it is the salmon Ghillie who I've done a shooting swap with but I digress.

Does anyone have any knowledge about the import procedure for firearms into the Republic of Ireland. I'm only taking a shotgun and 50-75 shells and I have a European Firearms pass. I'll be flying into Knock airport on the west coast.

Thanks for your help.

Standard drill is to charter a small fishing boat, load it to the gills with ex Warsaw pact weaponry and sail it to a small deserted bay. Big Grin

No doubt as a sporting gun you will be subjected to the nth degree. I find comments such as 'if I had a name like McGuinness and an Armalite would you be giving me this hassle' a great help Big Grin

The process should not be too painful. You can download the fom from here

http://www.garda.ie/angarda/leaflets.html

Applications must be made to the Superintendent of the area in which they intend shooting in first and must be accompanied by the following:

a) Appropriate Fee. (Rifle E38, 1st shotgun/Crossbow E25, 2nd or subsequent shotgun / Crossbow E6)

b) Residents of E.C. Member States must include an original European Firearms Pass (E.F.P.) (copies will not be accepted).

c) In any other case, any other permit, licence, authorisation or other document duly issued by an appropriate authority or body outside the State which the issuing person considers acceptable.

d) If Deer Hunting, you will also require a Deer Hunting Licence from Duchás, National Parks and Wildlife, Department of Environment and Local Government, 7 Ely Place, Dublin 2, Ireland. http://www.environ.ie

Hope this helps.

Usually takes about 6 weeks. It helps if you know someone in the gaurds how can move it along.

Good luck.

Myles
