Took delivery of new .243 Sauer 202 Lightweight Extreme with fixed 30 mm Apel mounts for a Swarovski 4-16x50 scope. Couldn't believe it when I ran out of lateral scope adjustment at 100 yds when zeroing. Tests with a collimator indicated either mounts or receiver out of true, scope was OK. To cut a long story short have accepted a replacement rifle fitted with B Square mounts which have lateral adjustment in each mount. Aesthetically they look awful but will probably do the job. Question is what Leupold mount or other quality mounts will fit the Sauer receiver profile? Anybody else, particularly amongst our European friends, ever come across this problem either in a rifle or mounts from such quality manufacturers? Sparrow

I have 3 Sauers, 1 is the older 200 the other two 202's in 300WBY, 7mmrem & .243 respectively. All are fitted with QDS mounts and I have never had any problems with them. That said the mounts were custom fitted to the last (202) two rifles. ...Never had a more accurate sporter...

I have a Sauer 200 fitted with QD EAW mounts, and I'm pretty sure that the rear mount is adjustable by "playing" with the 2 screws that are fitted in either side of the top-part of the rear mount. I have no experience with their fixed mounts, but you could check their website (www.eaw.de?)

My 202 carries a swing-out EAW too. I confirm that the rear of the mount is adjustable R/L. The correct procedure is to center the reticle in the scope first, prior to make initial lateral adjustments from the mount (in order to align the scope and keep all scope adjustments in reserve). Me think your EAW mount was all right but that you didn't take the time to study the notice.

I had the same problem in two sauers both 90`s one in .243 and a 30/06 twelve months later Bases/rings were replaced by the distributor and this alleviated the problem straight away The only explaination my gunsmith could come up with that the bases were incorrectly boxed up at the factory prior to despatch The quality of EAW is second to none and I shouldn`t think that there is a problem in the manufacture Tim

Thanks for the replies. Andre, You are right but to keep the post short I did not explain everything I did to find the problem. Centering the settings on the Swarovski showed a reading on the collimator of 24 inches off right! The same reading was obtained substituting a Schmidt&Bender so the problem was not the scope. I could not believe it was the Sauer receiver and when we tried some Warne bases and mounts a result of sorts was achieved. But I was not happy with the way the mounts could give variable readings on the collimator depending on how and in which order the screws were tightened! So when the importers offered an immediate replacement rifle I thought I would accept for peace of mind and will make do with the B Square mounts until I can source another pair of fixed Apels that are true or pay the extortionate price for the detachables if they have some adjustment available. Thanks again for replying.

Hmmmm, you should not have this kind of problems with Sauer and EAW. Either the mounting holes are out of whack or something was wrong with the mount. If it was me (and I was not in hurry), I would insist on the problem getting fixed, if not by your dealer, then by the importer. The current deal leaves you with a set of mounts you don't really want - if I understand you right? Apel in Germany are pretty good, see if getting in touch with them brings any joy. After all you were (or are) trying to buy one of their products (Ernst Apel). I have to agree with you and others: the pivot EAW mount is expensive as &%*"+!, but it is nice! You won't be disappointed if you spend your life savings on one... Good luck - mike
