I recently spent three days scouting a new area for reindeers. I did get a license for a mature buck, and did try to figure out how big the might get in this area. Here's some of the potential bucks. The hunting starts the 20 th of Aug, btw.. Smiler Hope you enjoy them!

Great, great bucks Anders, I envy you the chance to stalk those.

Is it the Forelhogna area?

this looks like an interesting hunt.

Many years ago Alaska imported some riendeer and some herders from Norway to train Alaska Natives how to herd them. There are still a couple herds around but not many.

One herd went wild on the west end of Kodiak island. I took a friend and his daughter there for a hunt last fall and we had a good time.

Many of the reindeer that went wild in other areas of Alaska mixed with caribou but these ones on Kodiak still are 100% pure reindeer from Norway.

We have good deer hunting there as well. We hunted late fall and unfortunantly the antlers fell off after the bull fell from the shot but we were able to put it all back together again.

Posting pictures of beasts that big is unfair - you know how they affect me! Smiler

Have a great time - the Roe rut is starting to die off now, but it has been a busy few weeks.

Thanks for your replies!
Arild, it's not the Forollhogna. Their from Norefjell-Reinsjøfjell (close to Langedrag). Because of unwanted gender structure, hunting bucks have been put on hold for four years. So every buck is four years older, which means bigger trophies.. Big Grin

Solvi, if you're thinking body wise, they might go over 100 kg butchered. Antler wise this area should have some of the best potential in Norway at the moment. CIC gold should definatly been within reach.

Akshooter, thanks for sharing! I didn't know they had imported reindeers in Kodiak. I'm working on a reindeer conservation centre here in Norway, and that's very interesting indeed! Great picture!

Ian, your more than welcomed to join me some time. Let's talk more about this in Suffolk! Smiler I don't think you're that hard to convince... How many bucks is in the salt at the moment?

Torbjørn, hope so too. Unless something odd has happened, theyshould be around the same area. I'll try to stick out for something special, and not just shoot the first and best buck.. Smiler

I would like to hunt reindeer on Iceland sometime. How's the chances for foreigners? Do one need a guide? Expensive?
