Now that I'm not allowed to have a moderater here in Canada, I'd like to try a muzzle brake/recoil reducer on some of my rifles.
They were cut with a 1/2" thread for moderaters in the UK. Is that 1/2 UNF? how may threads per inch is that? I think it's 20, but I don't want to buy something that won't fit!
thanks,
good shooting

Hi Sam,

Yes UNF is 20 threads per inch.

Hope you are keeping well, let us know how you get on using a break, as I may be in the same boat.

I used 85 gr sierra hp's for my deer last year as my .243 did'nt like 100 gr as well without the mod.
The 85's shot great, but they don't hold together well. I'm looking at 85 or 95 gr partitions for this year.
Also a brake would encourage my wife a little on the centerfires and maybe tame my .300 wm a bit!
Brownells have a few offering I will look into.
good shooting

Yo Sammie,

Hope you're doing fine in Canada.

We missed you at the AR weekend and had a toast to your good health. Your Butt Plug wasn't missed but (pun) I used mine on a Fallow at Kiri's.

rotflmo

I used our favorite Sierra 85 gr. HPBT's on the Fallow but you're correct; at the range I shot a Nosler 85 gr. Partition woulda got the job done alot better.

The 85 gr. Sierra's worked fantastically on head-shots for Springbok in Namibia this year.

Have fun with a Muzzle Break (they really do work well) but remember to give Mrs. Sam a pair of Ear Defenders if she decides to give the trigger a tug!

Eeker

Cheers,

Here Sam I don't think it's a good idea to get Kim shooting your rifles, unless you want your favouite 243 to end up pink like her 10/22!! stir

Hi Sam, hope you are having a nice life there in Canada and you will be attending our next AR get to gether next year.
Do not use a mussel brake, but use a Recoil Reducer in the stock. I did in my 300WM, and my kids love to shoot it. It will stay put and felt recoil is minimum

Chef, yes I'm a bowhunter. We met briefly about a year ago at AHEIA in Calgary.
John, I love it here, should have done it years ago. There are the odd pockets of wild boar here, escapees like in the UK. They are few and far between and jealously guarded by anyone who has the shooting.
I was really sorry to miss the AR bash, would love to make it next year if I can. It would be nice to get away from here in Feb when it's 30 below!
good shooting

Sam,

I may be coming over to work in Ohio so may need to pick your brains about bow hunting.

Took your advice about buying a .243 and I love it, super accurate with 70gr noslers and I have even shot red stags with it!

Aaron, there's nothing wrong with my wife's pink rifle!
Dave, there's lots of fun stuff you can do with a bow besides deer hunting. I just started on the gophers again this week!
good shooting
