Check out this guy... I only wish a) I could shoot like that, and b) we were allowed to have 8 shot clips for driven shooting in France and Spain!

Note how many times he mentions that the rifle must fit you well ! A point often ignored for rifles.

He's a great shot!

I have just watched Hunters Video: Wild Boar Fever 4, with him and some others and the shooting is impressive to say the least.

Some times I shoot just as good .... but then I wake up! Roll Eyes Big Grin

Franz Albrecht Oettingen-Spielberg - apparently he shot over 50 boar during the two days of filming Wild Boar Fever 4 in Hungary, but decided this wasn't enough so went home to Germany and shot a pile more on one of the family estates the following day. Clearly he is a naturally talented shot but not having to work for a living and unlimited access to shooting of this quality from childhood probably hasn't done him much harm either...

I think one of the amazing things is when you see after the shoot how far the momentum carries those boar even though they are stone dead.

Well dear Franz,

has really made a name for himself here in Sweden, the film Wildboar fever are being sold like, well a lot.

Yes the young man can shoot, however he has all the benefits of being sponsored by Sauer, by aimpoint, by RWS and a few clothing brands even though I doubt he would prefere those clothes himself.

One thing he was born with was/is talent and then he has had a ton of practice, a bag of more than 300 hoofed game a year, since he was 14-15, will make you either a good shot or not be hunting at all.

One thing in perticular has been a bit of a debate back here in Sweden, 90-95 of all shots are brain, extended spine shots and that is why they all the boars go down so hard,

I am in total awe of his abilities to shoot however in our little nation,

the starting point is that no one can shoot that well, cause I cant and no one I know either and then there is a rant about proper bullet placement.

Even though it not even close to ever going to happen I would be proud to have the prince as a guest on a shoot or to just practice shooting with him.

We have this place here, I might have mentioned it before,

a hunting cinema,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?f...bedded&v=TBYxzHGRpyw

Well it´s a great place to train and with in group of 8 shooters, 30+30 min of shooting with a 30 min break in between usually yuilds about 100-120 shots of real life training,

I have improved my driven game shooting by miles and that is something to consider.

That looks like an amazing facility to have at your disposal. I've heard of similar things but never actually seen one. Apparently there was going to be something like this in the UK but I don't know if it ever happened.

I think practice plays a massive part in improving shooting ability and indeed Franz apparently gets a lot of that.

He talks about gun fitting and indeed I think this is a small area many people cut a corner on but it makes a huge difference indeed. Most shotgun shooters will get a gun fitted and yet many rifle shooters will not for some reason.

I'm guilty of this myself as my Sauer is an inch too short for me and as such it catches me occasionally. given my access to gunsmiths I don't know why I have not just got it lengthened... After all I would never leave a shotgun win my cabinet with that much error in fit.

I just picked up on this today. Ignoring the promotional guff from Sauer, this guy is amazing.

I just wish I had half the chance to practise that this guy obviously enjoys.

Very impressive shooting - all CNS on small targets with only one miss which is followed up in style. I will never attain such skill.

I am surprised that he removes the rifle from the shoulder to cycle the bolt. That does not say good rifle fit to me. It should be possible to have correct eye relief and be able to cycle the bolt without having to un-shoulder the rifle.

There is a little bit of cynic in me that wonders how widely this would have been aired had he messed up and gut shot 8 pigs.... don't tell me that mistakes don't happen in this game.

Sounds like sour grape perhaps but I'm not particularly comfortable with competitive/advertising shooting of live game.

Watching him closely each shot he is starting in a gun down position and swinging through like a shotgun. By dropping the butt and working the bolt he is moving ontothe next target from the same position each time.

I shoot a shotgun from the gun down position, indeed can't hit a thing from gun up and tend to dismount between shots - even on right and left. My instinct would be to shoot moving big game with a rifle in the same way. Certainly that's the way I shoot rabbits with a 22 rf if safe to do so. Would be delighted if somebody would provide the running boar to test my theory!

It´s just shy of two hours drive from Sthlm,

decent roads though.

I must say that two, three goes there a year @ 100-120 rounds each will improve everbodys shooting but even further more,

will improve there judgement and ability to call what is shootable and not,

I fore one with a decent amount of experience with driven game, swedish style, not euro style finds that a lot of people have some shortcomings in that departement.

I must stress that the noble man that owns that estate might get crossed should I present myselfs as owner,

I have only met the son in that house and he is a decent chap.

Well we are putting togheter the plans for a seasons ending sort of shoot there in early march,

my hunting team that is.

Any how,

you all take care and have a great seasons passing i will be out of range for a bit.

He lowers the rifle while he cycles the bolt so he can zone in on the next boar. Acquisition of the next animal while looking through the scope would be very difficult.
I would like to see this done with open sights.

He also points out in the interview how he mounts the gun on his arm rather than his shoulder pocket. I should imagine such a mount makes it nigh on impossible to cycle the bolt wit the gun mounted.

Talent + lots of money and lots practice will improve anyone's shooting ability. He is an excellent shooter for sure but there are a few guys who are my beaters in Croatia and they can do the same with their Mausers and Steyrs in open grounds. Mick from Ireland shot 5 out of five with my Steyr and 5 bullets in the rifle. Ronnie shot many times with his Blaser 4 boar in a row with 4 rapid shots. Mark B. as well, as many more. They are all ordinary guys with great shooting skills. My best this year was 9 shots 8 boar killed in a group with Steyr 30-06 and 1 massive trophy boar with 5 hits, 3 in the chest, 1 in the guts and the last one in the head with 308. I managed to put all the bullets in while running boar covered 40m. So I was quick and impressed myself. Next day I missed big one twice and I can't explain how.
I think that on this forum we have some good shots all they need is an opportunity to see if they can do it. Boghossian's cousin David is an excellent shot but he always says that it's all about luck. Wink

I think the Ruger bolt-action Scout rifle, chambered in .308, with a short barrel and a 10-round magazine would be great for this type of shooting.

Did anyone notice how straight he keeps his left arm - gives him a lot of control and a short arc all compatiable with dropping the rifle from the shooting and "recycling" the same moves every shot.

Jesus H....

And that with a bolt-action! So much for the straight-pull and semiautomatic rifles!

BTW, he is SPOT ON in pointing out about the stock fitment. Everyone knows that a shotgun "hits with its stock", but I know of precious few who take the time and effort to have a rifle stocked for themselves.
Having shot some two dozen rifles in various calibers I can attest to this. I had my Winchester 1895 re-stocked, and it became a totally different piece altogether. Money well spent!

Anyone know which bullets he is using?

He has got you guys all fooled. He is no rifle shooter. By trade he shoots Olympic trap and is a good friend of Bindrick

Of course he understands

If really doesn't matter what make of gun
What specification or what caliber

Getting fitted is only the start

Consistant mount and

Ability to perform under pressure is more important

If you want to shoot like that I suggest you take out a mortgage and start shooting Olympic trap

No I guess they don´t,

that is because he is shooting a 270 Win with them 130 grains H- mantel, that is what it states on the box in the clip at least.
