Is the Darne still being made?

I just did a search on the net and found very little information on some of the rare French gunmakers like the Darne (it was re-launched as the Bruchet some years ago I think) the Baby Bretton etc.

I am particularly interested in knowing if the darne is still being made and if there is any website for it.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

did they make a sliding breech system on a shotgun? If so - saw something corresponding to that down at 'The Sportsman' Devon a couple years back.

I think the Darne had a section in Michael McIntosh's book "Best Guns"

There are pictures of two Darns here: www.rydsvapen.se Click the word "Hagelgevr" (i.e. shotgun) at the left side, scroll to the bottom of the new page and click the green V at the end of the lines with "Darn". Nice guns.

Thank you for the information - I have seen and shot only one Darne that belongs to the brother of a friend of mine and it was a lovely gun.

I guess there are many people willing to support a brilliant design keeping the Darne company afloat.

Fritz Kraut,

There used to be a Swedish shotgun called the Caprinus Sweden if I am right. Is it still being made? Is that the Husqvarna on the site? Do let me know if you know about this.

Thanks everyone.

The Caprinus shoot gun is not made anymore. If you got one and needs spare parts. I know a fellow that has some of the parts inventory. It was manufactured at the West Coast and not in the deep forrests of Smland [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

The Caprinus is now called the Flodman (in a slightly modified form) ...see http://www.flodman.com

there is a very complete review of the flodman line in the first 2002 issue of the Double Gun Journal.

Some of the part wil not fit between the brands. I know one of the toolmakers from Caprinus and he as a inventory of parts if someone would need it. I live in the same town as this fellow.

Who wrote the article about the Floodman guns??

Floodman rifle was designed by the famous Rune Floodman a quite well known competitive shooter in Sweden.

JOHAN-

the author of that article is fredrik franzen - the title is "The Swedish Taste" which appeared in DGJ Volume 13 Issue 1 2002.

The article is very thorough & it traces the beginnings of the Caprinus/Flodman back to an inventor named Tore Hoving. Rune Flodman was a part of the Caprinus design team and later he further improved the design on his own and gave it his name. the company is now owned by Skullman Enterprises...but you probably already know this.

Regarding BRUCHET DARNE,
Mr Paul BRUCHET was the works manager at DARNE. Darne went bust in 1978 and Mr BRUCHET save the gun system from the financial disaster and started producing under his own name. Eventually he was able to obtain the rights to the original DARNE name. He seems to be doing an excellent job and the guns are as appreciated as they used to be for their elgance, balance and unique personality.

I only know the new FLODMAN gun from company brochures and the SKULMAN internet site.
The design looks intelligent and mechanically sound ; it is also very elegant. However I have never shot one, handled one or even seen one for real.
Can somebody provide first-hand information on the gun : characteristics, qualities, problems, personality, reputation ...
Thanks.
