Will be in London for a few days in early Sept 2011 with the wife. Hunting not allowed on this trip, but maybe a visit to a hunting/firearms museum might be allowed.

Anyone have any info on such availability and possible costs for entry.

I can't think of any particular speciallity hunting/firearms museums in London.

You might like to try the Imperial War Museum,, and possibly the Maritime Museum in Greenwich,
(both of these are free, as are all the major Museums in the UK)

The Tower of London is is also well worth a vist and has a fantastic collections of old arms and armour.

Its been a while since I have been there, but as I recall it was about £15 per person, but well worth it.

All these places can be reached via the Underground network. When you arrive, look at buying an Oyster Card as it will save you a small fortune over the price of individual tube journey fares..

Regards,

Peter

Start of down in vauxhall at j Roberts and sons, the cross the river at Victoria and up thru St James park to pall mall and a visit to farlows and house of hardy (for a fishing fix) then round the corner to St James - moving swiftly past the very good wine / cigar shops at the bottom you have William evans on the left hand side, the barrera gallery at the top. Turn left past the ritz and cross over towards bruton street and holland and holland. Now be very careful as there are lots of jewlewers, designer shops and art galleries and you will be mugged by wife / daughter / girlfriend for your credit card. Holland holland a very good place to dream. Then down to Ray Ward in Knightsbridge. Then go out along the m40 to the west London shooting school and further out to churchills at west Wycombe. at wndsor castle are some very fine old sporting flintlocks used by royalty 200 years ago.

That'll keep you busy for a couple of days.

Perfect days walk but don't forget James Purdey and Sons on Mount St. It isn't to far from Holland and Holland. Right before or after Holland and Holland, stop for a pint at the Coach and Horses. It is a small pub across the road from Holland and Holland.

And also William & Son on Mount Street - I have never been in, nor into Purdeys - a treat for next time I am down in London.

Thanks for the reminder. William and Son is definately worth the stop while on Mount Street. The first time I was in London, Boss was on Mount Street also but they have unfortunately closed that store down.

Have fun and enjoy London. It's a wonderful city and now serve Windhoek Lager. Wink

If you can stretch do a day-trip pm me and I'll try and arrange for a tour of the Cotton-Powell museum of big game at Quez House if the dates work.

http://www.quexmuseum.org/museum/Museum.aspx

It's about 2 hours from London on the train and the curator of the museum is an experienced hunter and a good bloke.

I used to work 2 mins from Holland and Holland.

Forget about the Coach and Horses and go to The Guinea (pub), it is directly opposite the rear door of H&H. Have a Steak & Kidney pie. I promise you this is almost a life changing experience.

Somewhere on the wall is an endorsment from the late Oliver Reed - "The best steak and kidney pie I have ever tasted". Need I say more?

If your dates coincide with any auctions then they are always worth a look and perhaps a beer could be arranged
