I Got a call last week from Dennie the PH in RSA to say he was coming over on Friday and was I around. I arranged to take the friday off and went to Heathrow to pick him up. We spent the day in the gunshop with anothher freind then went off to the shoot to see if we could get Dennie a Fallow.

He'd never shot an animal outside of SA so he was very excited. We parked up and I walked him out to the seat at about 3-30pm. which was about 300yds from the car. By the time i walked back to the car I had two missed calls!!

"Kiri... there's a black deer in front of me with two knobs on his head. shall I shoot?" He'd never seen black fallow before so wanted to make sure. The whole process took all of 3 minutes...... I made it clear to him that this is the general outcome when you have a top notch PH/Guide!!! Wink I've just heard that he got a Fallow Pricket and a Fox on Sunday at a freinds place too.

The next day we went out on the same shoot to shoot some of our pheasants and Duck . We ended up with 26 Pheasants and 44 Ducks. I had my dad over from Cyprus, and my girlfreinds' best freind from Ireland. Dennie was there as was UK Hunter that I went on Safari with. All in all we had a great bunch of freinds to share the day with.

Here are some pictures:

Waiting between drives.

Sorting the Bag

All in all it was a great weekend. Good sport with good freinds. I love this time of year!! And what's more we have had a couple of frosts this last week which will bring the birds back into the coverts looking to feed and feather them up properly. Can't wait for the next one.

Hi 'Terminator', I must say those glasses don't really go with that outfit, but a nice bag nonetheless!

P.S. I bet you were glad the PH wasn't describing a black angus!

Gerry...

I thought the glasses were rather fetching!!! Wink

In al honesty they are probably a little "agressive", and on some more "formal" days me and dad (who werars the same) have received some rather interesting looks.

Just for information purposes they are Oakley Ballistic's and come with three lenses. The orange colour is not quite so fierce but they are designed specifically for shooting and are shot proof.

I can't use them when stalking as glasses and binos don't mix for me, but otherwise as a peice of kit I highly reccomend them.

That is, if you can take the look....

I think I am Brian.

Gerry got us mixed up on an earlier thread. Didn't like to say at the time.

I take it the weekend included a fair amount of liquid nurishment?

Brian

You should check that once and for all to get rid of any potential identity crisis.... Wink

As for the Liquid refreshment, On the way back home after stalking, my missus called to see what we were gonna do for dinner. I told her we had just stopped to get some Frosties to celebrate Dennies first non african animal. She thought I was proposing cereal for dinner!!! Big Grin Bless!!!

After the pheasants and Duck, there was some quantity of port consumed and a bit of wine as we had "drivers" with us!!

The Sloe gin and Champagne cocktail breakfast is a good one on boxing day!!! Wink

We always start off our days with the Sloegasm (Champagne and Sloe Gin mix), great way of warming yourself up, and fine if you have a driver!

We used to do it between layouts at FITASC shoots but decided we looked to ponsy!!

Gentlemen,

I do apologize. I have made a gross error in mistaken identities, please decide who you actually are (and will the REAL Brian please stand up?). I've mixed up Claret_Dabler as Brian who is actually Fallow Buck, or any combinations thereof; excuse me. It may happen again. Please fax me a copy of any pertinent Identidy Documents so I can confirm.

bewildered

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I am only slightly addled, although perhaps the three glasses of regular, unleaded German White Wine may be the culprit - not to be confused with Sloe Gin, Chamapnge and/or Port.

clap

You guys are weenies with your Liquor breakfasts. Real men start the day on their peg with a greasy slab of Sausage and a shot of Aquavit!

No, or I don't remember; either one, take your pick. I'm getting senile, cannot remember what I had for breakfast.

Seriously sorry pal, "Life of Brian" doesn't ring a bell but it was probably good - quite simply I didn't ever get around to it!

Gerry,

It's one of the Monty Python films...a very irreverent parody of the life of Jesus Christ..what made it especially funny was that the higher ups in the Church ect had a complete sense of humour failure about it and wanted it banned! Big Grin Big Grin

Always look on the bright side of life, de do, de do, de do......

In any case, I am Irish. Breakfast, proper breakfast, consists of large amounts of fried dead pig, black pudding (That's blood sausage to you) and fried bread. We don't normally hit the booze until mid-morning, 11.00am or so. My 2003 vintage of sloe gin is looking pretty good just now.

Anyway, off to bed, I have knocked back a rather nice bottle of Riesling in the past hour, plus a chinese takeaway. I really am a fat bastard.

Regards

Anyway Brekkie on a shoot day has to be bacon and sausage roll, strong coffee and a port sharpener bbefore the first drive. Sloe gin at elevensees (or maybee two )and vino non blanco with venison casserol for lunch. then back to the port for dessert and cheese. what's mopre we actually manahge to do some shooting inbetweeen the eating/drinking!!

The boys are all out culling today and I'm stuck in the office. Have already had a few texts pointing oput that they are shooting while I am working and funnily enough it's making me grumpy.... Wink

If there are any Voodo posters please can you blanket East sussex and Kent in snow this morning.... Not that I'm bittter and twisted you understand... About 12 feet should do the trick.

Tell me about it. A couple of the shoots I manage have been having some cracking days, and I keep getting stuck with the management and never get to shoot them!

All the Fallow up our way have gone back to the Commission Estate to escape the cold wind, so no one else has any stalking on this week. Will have to go over to Milton Keynes for the CWD this weekend instead!

FB.

Concentrating on the Roe at the moment - had a couple this week. Managing to work mornings then out to spend a couple hourse stalking the late pm. Looking out of the window - glorious day down here now. Looking forward to another stalk later on........ how I sympathize with you!! Wink

Out on the Sika hinds again on Friday - always a fun stalk - managed three last week. Frustrating to spend the day looking at a herd of 58 the wrong side of the fence however!!

Keep well - and enjoy this time of year......no bugs, good visibility - and plentiful shooting.

Good to hear everyone is getting good trigger time (cept Fallow Buck).
I am going on a fallow/sika cull this weekend, which has ruined my productivity allll week. But then again when you are a student, productivity is a relative.

Luke,

that is actually a very poor pricket. A good one would have about 5-7" spikes on top of what is there. Hence why he is in the chiller!!! Wink

Eric,

It seemed that every drive I tried to put myself out of the shooting and birds were going out of their way to fly over me... It was ridiculous as not a single drive went as planned with everything going over me and dad. I managed to pull a few down in the process... Big Grin

When are you over in this part of the world?

FB,

I'm flying over on sunday, and will return home on thursday. Unfortuantly, I'll only have a few hours in London, so I will not have the pleasure of meeting up with you, or other AR members in the area. Hopefully next time! Smiler

There seems to be some confusion!

There is only one "Terminator" in that picture and it is not the greek Bloke in the glasses! It is the pretty little thing on the end of the lead that he is holding....she is one determined young bitch.
