What do we think of this?

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/t...k/article5864850.ece

Anybody out there with accurate knowledge regarding this story?

Seems distasteful. The publicity will do none of us any good.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

On the face of it, this is just like bidding for any other trophy animal. When I first started stalking it was quite common to bid for stags in south west England and Ireland, but I don't know if that happens at all any longer. It did not encourage a responsible long term attitude from landowners and stalkers so I don't mourn its passing. The bidding would go on right up to the end. I even know of one stalk where two rifles were bidding against each other as they made the final crawl into position! The landowner was delighted however!
White roe are more common in Scotland than in England. I was not too surprised to hear of this animal when I first saw this story. They are not as rare as all that and I know a forest near to this location where white roe are seen quite regularly. Charlie Jacoby has, I suspect, been winding this story up as he likes to do that for its own sake as much as any outcome - that's my impression at least. I agree that it will do us all harm in the end, there have always been some damn fools involved in UK stalking and there always will be.

Would agree Kiri, if that is a roe, it has more wrong with it than just it's colour.

Maybe the guy is just trying to drum up some business - daily rate plus trophy fee if successful? Keep himself busy in the early season?

God, I am cynical. Frowner

If that picture is really representative of the actual animal , It needs to be at the top of the cull list, It should be done without delay too! never mind the frothing at the mouth of the tree/bunnie huggers, they are just showing their own ignorance of why deer control is so badly needed. Indeed, white roe show up here once in a while, even the papers write about it. I once saw one in the Black Forest.

However, as already mentioned,to kill one according to old supersticions generates very bad Karma... Besides, they for sure do not taste any different than plain chocolate so why take the risk?

As I heard it, the bad karma thing is related to the white hart only ? Confused
