Winter came with a bang here in Iceland.....there are 200 Reindeer tags still to be taken and only 2 days left of hunting and with this weather I seriously doubt that this will be achieved. Farmers have lost thousands of lambs in the snow in the North and rescuers are battling with time to dig them up from the snow before they die. Is anybody home ?

We stopped for an overnight fuel stop on a military flight from Maine to Newfoundland to Iceland to Turkey to Afghanistan. Iceland looks like a wonderful place. I would have loved to have more than 15 hours there. Keflavik used to be the US Military base. What are they doing with it now? I had orders there, but the person I was replacing extended a year, and then they shut it down. It looked wonderful.

The former - US Military base is now a College campus and there are all sorts of small businesses located there. The Icelandic Coast Guard is also using some facilities.

Neat pics, thanks for the info on winter. Also feeling the cool weather here in Europe, and I heard on the news they will get a small taste of cooler weather as far down as the Mediterranean. -------- There are those who only reload so they can shoot, and then there are those who only shoot so they can reload. Its not been much of a Summer here either. I had my third Barbecue of the year tonight. It sucks a bit to go straight to Winter though. Good luck with the last few days of the hunt though. Its awesome country to hunt in. Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened. Sir Winston Churchill

Ingvar Questions for you. How much snow fell and over what period ? It looks a huge amount. How do the sheep get so buried ? Do they stand there when it starts to snow / blizzard and the snow gradually piles up around them until it completely covers them ? Secondly, do you get any warning that this type of weather is coming ? Thirdly, do the farmers at least attempt to bring them in / closer to home or a barn so they are less likely to get snowed in or is it just too hard / the distances too far ? Anyway, thanks for posting. . Previously 500N with many thousands of posts !

505G ! It snowed a lot in just 24 hours.....over 2 metres (6.5feet) in some places, and sheep’s just took cover where ever they could and snow gradually piled up around them until it completely covered them. There was a snowstorm warning but there was very little anybody could do really. Electricity was of for 2-3 days in some counties but the important thing was that farmers, rescuers and many volunteers managed to save thousands of sheep in the following days after the snowstorm.

Thanks Understand. We get cold wet windy snaps here that causes problems but nothing like that, except that the farmers here also suffer from not being able to do much ! Previously 500N with many thousands of posts !

Jesus, that is impressive. Probably a good way to keep them out of the wind / snow. Previously 500N with many thousands of posts !
