Hi All,

I was wandering if anyone had bought a book from Safari Press in the internet and had it shipped back to thhe UK. I'm looking for a copy of the Perfect Shot Mini Edition, but not sure if there are any hidden charges or does anyone know where I can get it from here?

Also what are Cabellas like for DVD's to the UK, or is there a UK supplier?

Thanks,
FB

FB,

I have been buying books from Safari Press for many years and the shipping costs don’t seem to be very high. I believe they have a sort of “despatch central†in Germany from where they dispatch all over Europe.
But most of the Africana and hunting&shooting related books, I buy them from Alibris. I believe that their prices, no matter if for new or used books, are unbeatable!

I'll second B.Martins as a European customer of Safari Press. Never had any issues with them. They have a very decent shipping rate, I believe they call it ISAL (or something?). That works out a lot quicker than surface shipping, but is still a lot cheaper than air parcel post.

Cabelas and shipping to Europe is another story. I don't know if this is still their policy, but they used to charge a percentage of your order total - as opposed to actual shipping and handling costs. That mostly made it uninteresting to have stuff from Cabelas shipped to Europe over the last years. I have bought tons of stuff from them, and had it shipped to US addresses, no problem there what so ever.

I never encounter any trouble with deliveries from safari press. Charges are acceptable.

As mho is saying Cabelas is another story.
Like him I make my orders ship in the US and then a friend bring the items in France for no charges at all

Kiri,

I have avoided cabelas for the reasons already mentioned...They charge double for airmail to their standard rates and their standard rates are already high!

With regards import taxes ect, it seems hit or miss...As I understand it, it the total value of the package is under about £30, you don't pay tax. Once its over that, you are liable depending what the product is..In reality, there seems to be no consistancy to when I have been charged and when I haven't.

For DVD's, try Craig Boddingtons website...I have ordered DVDs from them and their prices are very reasonable; cheaper than some DVD's sold in the UK..

Regards,

Pete

I don't know what DVDs you want, but my friend Ken Wilson makes quite a few. His are not as professional as Hunters Video but his group hunts more than Europe and they make them in PAL.

I have things I order shipped to my FPO address. So I have no idea how things work for shipments to real Euro addresses.

I do buy books from Safari Press a few times a year. I usually do it in increments of $400 or $500 a time, and haven't been charged Spanish tax once. They are damn quick on shipping, and I have never had to wait more than a 5 days to an item.

I have experienced that Cabelas are a bit expensive but quick delivery. Safari Press takes a bit more time, but is cheaper.. That`s to Norway though.. I think Safari Press might be the best option! I on the other hand tend to favorize the smaller companies with niche-products... Smiler
