Hi All! I usually hang out in the NA hunting forum but I am going to be speaking at Oxford in September and have never visited UK.

I am flying into Heathrow and need to get to Oxford-- do buses run pretty much all day where I can just show up and buy a ticket?? Other methods??

Thanks for any info.

National Express coaches will run between London and Oxford but it might be advisable to book ahead.

Alternatively, you could probably get a train although you may need to change once or perhaps twice on the journey. Both on coaches and train is often much cheaper to book ahead than pay on the day.

The only other way is to hire a car at the airport. The route from Heathrow to Oxford is very straight forward, although delays can be a problem on the M25 outside of London..

IdahoVandal,
try this:

www.virginrail.co.uk

type in Heathrow Airport to Oxford, if the Airport is not available it will give you alternative rail stations within Heathrow.

Thanks for the replies...

I am going to be in the UK from 9/17-9/21 at the International Felid Conservation Conference

Unfortunately, I am not familiar enough with UK laws regarding to shooting/hunting to even try and begin to plan something-- does sound like a blast though!

A few weeks after I return deer season opens here in Idaho......

IV,

No laws to worry about really..for vistors like yourself, its quite usual to borrow a rifle from who ever you are hunting with; no paperwork or red tape to worry about..

In the Oxford area, Roe, Fallow, and Muntjac are your likely choice of quarry, and it will be buck season for all of them. Its not a problem over here to just book a morning or evenings outing, so it wouldn't take much arranging..

Regards,

Pete
