Experienced a funny thing the other day. Early this spring I build a couple of high seats, and it really paid of..
I had been sitting in my chair for an hour or so, when I roe with two youngsters appeared to my right, started grazing 25-30m away. After 5 minutes a buck came running towards them. When he was 40 meters away from me I shot him. He went down, but got up and ran 50 meters and fell dead to the ground. The other animals, which were even closer to me, just looked up for a second and then started grazing again. I watched them for about 15 minutes, finishing my cup of coffe and then want down to collect my trophy. Then finally they ran away. I`ve experienced animals before having trouble with the location of the sound, but not lie this..
Here`s a photo BTW:

I've had this happen on more than one occasion with roe deer.

I took an old buck during August, which at the shot did something I have NEVER seen before.

The shot, broadside, took him through the front of the shoulders, where the neck joins the body.
The buck did a complete and perfect backflip, landing on his belly, dead.

As I went to collect him, I noticed a doe grazing maybe 50m away. She wasn't even sure if she wanted to leave when I was walking over toward the downed buck.

Not real problem solvers are they?

I used to hunt, at least, a couple of roe deers every year, in Spain of course, a little bit smaller than northern but amazing hunt.

Here is one of them.

We sometimes get a similar reaction from the Fallow. You can use it to your advantage if you want to take more than one beast. It works best if you neck the first beast as he'll just drop rather than alarming the rest of the herd.

By no means foolproof but can be part of the "Cunning Plans" so often associated with our sport.... [Wink]

"...A plan so cunning, you could put a tail on it and call it a Fox!"

Sorry folks, couldn't resist - recognised the quote from the UK comedy series 'Black Adder' [Smile]

Anders,

I do love that type of head - CIC is in my opinion a bit too mass orientated. Nice photo.

Roe make up for being a bit tame on occasion by being IMHO very unpredictable regarding whether you will actualy see any or not.

Ian....

Is that the same fox that used to be professor of cunning at Oxford University???
If so I think he is an ambassador now at the EU High Commission for Cunningness [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

I Do find that my 15 year old mate Glendronnach does help when formulating said cunning plans!!
