Alias, Alias

I need some help here. My wife has me going on a trip to Germany and Prague this summer instead of back to Africa for another hunt. I am not a tourist type person and unfortunately have no interest in architecture, museums, or art.

Can anyone give me any suggestions on what else too do while in Germany. I am not sure of our itineary so any suggestions will be helpful.

I only know that we end up in the city where the Passion Play is held and then go to Prague for a few days.

Thanks

H. Kittle

I assume by the passion play you mean oberamergau ( I hope our German frinds take no ofence I have no idea how to spell it)

It is a great vilage famous for wood carving and you will find a lot of carvings with hunting scenes. While your there you might as well see the king Ludwig palace (I don't remember the name) and as far as that go'es Neuschwanstein is not that far away.

When your in that area you surly will travel through Munchen and there is a hunting Museum downtown near the old city hall. If you go there you are withen walking distance of both Franconia and Kettner. Might as well get some shopping in for yourself there.

If you drive towards Prague from there , there is a small village with a Hotel called ST Hubertus. The village is Schunsee and there is a very interesting hunting museum in the Hotel.

Search this European hunting section and not to far back was a topic about some hunting museums on the Bohemian side of the border.

There are also many gunmakers you can visit. I'm sure you can keep your wife so busy going to hunting sites she will never force you to go with her again.

An exact itineary will help though because there are places like these all over that part of Europe.

There is a nice hunting museum and a big Frankonia Jagd store in München. On your way to Prague visit Berchtesgaden (you can watch chmaois in the national park, see the Königssee and the Kehlsteinhaus, Hitler's eagles nest) and Salzburg, also nice hunting stores, Mozart city, excellent food. You might want to order a custom fitted Lederhosen or at least a Tirolerhut in Berchtesgaden, a once in a lifetime purchase.

I don't think I have to mention the excellent beer and wines.

I know you are not interested in history, but hunting history should be fine. In Czech Republic you can visit "Hunting Lodge Ohrada" - Museum of Forestry, Hunting and Fishery and "The chateau of Hluboká", with show of old exlusive hunting weapons etc.

And of course, don't miss CZ factory shop in Praha (Prague)

And of course there is a lot of possibilities to hunt!

Jiri,

This is great. Wish I had time and money left to do a hunt. I will check the exact dates of when I am in Prague. You might have a hunt recommendation. At least maybe I can buy you a beer.

Thanks

OK :-)

Actually, I am more in Pilsen than in Prague (about 100km afar). Pilsen is the city where lager was invented. It is called also The world capital city of beer, home of Pilsner Urquell ;-)

I can get some information about hunting here if you are interested, for example my friend own a game-preserve with fallow deer and mouflons and of course he manages hunting there.

It depends how much time you have and what is your interest. I would definitely find some restaurant in Prague to try some wild game - Jagellonska, Praha 2 used to have one specialized in it - quail and wild boar and fallow deer.
If you are into weapons and history you could enjoy the fortification from 30ties Hanicka Also Konopiste Castle has fine collection of trophies and it is close to Prague.
There is a Frankonia store on I.P.Pavlova square and small store with Czech hunting equipment in Jungmannova street.

Thanks for everyone's input. I will in Prague several days before going into Germany. It appears that I will only have time in Prague to do the things suggested. The intineary in Germany does not apppear to allow much free time.

Thanks again.

From my many trips hunting, visiting museums and gunmakers, drinking beer and eating schnitzel in Germany I can assure you that the above quote is just unacceptable.

h kittel,

What does your wife absolutely love that you can't stand? Something you hate so much she won't even suggest doing it because you'll cancel the trip. You could suggest she does that while you sneak in a day or so of hunting. Go your separate ways in the morning and meet for supper in the evening. The Brownie Points you lose for leaving her on her own for a day are more than offset by your giving her the chance to do something she loves, but had given up on being able to do.

BTW, I agree with Akshooter. If you don't have some free time to sit on a patio and sample the local delacies, you are missing half the point of going to Europe.
