Good afternoon gentlemen, I hope you are all hiving a good easter weekend.

Sadly I must report that the trusty Meopta 7x50 on my 30.06 seems to have finally died.

I sort of had a very minor dropping-it-out-of-a-tree-and-falling-on-it incident with the rifle a little while ago and took it to Bisley to wring it out yesterday.

It will group for a random number of shots and then the POI will shift to a random place for a random number of other shots. The windage adjustment appears now a cosmetic ornament but the graticule wire isn't broken and the tube doesn't look in any way bent. I can still see through it fine.

I realise it's a cheap scope to begin with but it has served me well and taken a considerable amount of abuse in that time. I also have some small sentimental attachment to it, as some of you will know. ("8 clicks right, bang, 16 clicks to your other right")

The question is can I get it repaired, who would do it and for roughly how much, or should I be looking for a new scope and just keep this one as a wall hanger?

With thanks,

Amir

If you can get it fixed for less than the price of a new one then you could put the money saved towards a day stalking. So, if it were me I'd get it fixed!

Sorry, but I've no idea who might fix it but there was talk of a place in Glasgow that did bins very well so maybe they would look at a scope as well? Someone will remember who they are.

Amir, I bought a S/H 7x50 Meopta a few weeks back. I know I have the importers details in a box somewhere - under the dust sheets as I am painting, God help us.

Give me a shout tomorrow and I will dig it out for you.

If you are stuck for a week or two, I can lend you said scope?

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

Thanks guys,

Brian those details would be great, I can't remember who they were but they are really good to deal with.

They sent a pair of turret caps gratis when I lost one a few years ago.

Thank you for your kind offer mate but I'll be fine, Kiri lent me his leupold a while ago for the 308 and I can use that rifle. Just have to call time a few minutes earlier!

Spring cleaning fever eh?

Your brownie point collection shall runneth over! Cool

Used to be Edgar Brothers. Very good scopes. I'd get a quote for repair from the importers.

I feel your pain about broken scopes. Luckily for me my last one was a Leuopold and I live about 20 minutes drive from the repair depot and had it back good as new within three days.

I have also had a couple of unexplained misses with my Meopta - have just put it down to bad shooting, but it mine is 10 years old and had quite a hard life. Perhaps it needs repair. Amir, how many shots roughly, is yours grouping before POI wanders off.

If you fancy changing up a gear or two, I have an 8x56 Swaro sitting on my bookshelf waiting for a new home. Its the one I took off my 308 before fitting the one with the red dot.
I need to put my rse into gear and move it on but you can have first dibs if you want.

Dave,

If Amir doesn't want it let me know what you need for it as I have a young lady that might be able to use it.

You saw the risk assessment and when I dropped my rifle it still worked so I reckon that on the balance of things with me as the control experiment you must have done something wrong that led to the failure of the scope.
