I seem to recall Lea Macnally,(RIP) one of the foremost deer stalkers in the highlands once saying (in a shooting times uk article)that he had used evrything at one time or another from .22 to .303 etc for red deer and now he had finally settled on and would not move from the 243...flat shooting accurate ad naus...low recoil ad naus... shot placement ad naus... yet again.
ER!! did I mention shot placement and accurate shooting yet again.

Thanks for replies
now I know what to do i'll trade my old Brno fox 222 for one in 243win so i can hunt legally roe deer in Sweden and if possible red stag in UK . not a bad idea!
