Hi all,

The TFP's have gone on their way. You should all have them by the end of the week as I sent them priority mail. Only Anders needs to Sign for his, as there was no Airsure option for his part of the world.

Don't forget to sign them when you get them,
K

Oh, and BTW, a couple of questions relating to travel in the UK:

What is the legal ration of tax-free booze you can bring into the UK as a visitor?? 1 liter? 2 liter??

Is there a UK website where I can see UK prices for Single Malts??

Good morning gents,

It's become apparent that we have booked out the Travel lodge for the weekend, and there are 3 individuals that havegot no accomodation for the weekend.

Would nayone be willing to share a room and halve their costs for the weekend?

Please post on the thread if that is possible and any takers can approach via PM.

I hope we can get this sorted as it would be better than people having to drive a few miles to their accomodation.

Rgds,
K

Kim, the UK seems to be going through a colder than normal spell at present. They have even had to suffer through periods of heavy snow fall - fairly unusual for a country warmed by the Gulf Stream.

It is probably best if you prepare for temperatures below freezing (32 F for you non-metric people). Sitting on a stand in (near) freezing conditions can get old quick if you are not properly dressed. So pack all your woolies, undies and whatever else you have that will keep you warm.

Check here for weather forecasts: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/ukweather/south/ . (We will be just west of Luton - marked on the map).

Look on the bright side, at least on the Trans-Atlantic flight, you'll have a 2x 50 lbs luggage allowance. From Continental Europe, we have to get by with 1x 45 lbs (or so)....

Brian,

Yes, there is "Alternative Accomodation", "Close-By/Near-By" according to Travel Lodge's website = 7-10 Miles - go figure.

pissers

Sadly, not within driving, Ugh, Walking, Tottering, Stumbling or Crawling distance from our venue, especially at Zero Dark-Thirty.

I can suggest arriving early, make-up arranged and appearing quite innocent & docile; in the hope one of the more twisted attendees (I've several suspicions) will quickly arrange availability with the Travel Lodge for a second room key. After that - you're an Adult.

Apparently there are several others in the same predicament, so for Christ's sake give it a reasonable effort or you're gonna be sleeping curled up on the Larder Room floor and it's PD cold there about right now!

I have absolutely no intentions of being; either far away, cold nor uncomfortable!

Hello Claret dabbler

Remember me HAHAH?? I will be at Baldock replacing GHUBERT !!!!!!!!

I suggest the following as last resort

Try the "Days Inn" at South mimms service station.

You are only 15 - 17 miles away and always against commuter traffic going the opposite direction. Max 20 minutes by car

I am sure they have a special offer on at the moment @ £33 per night without breakfast.

Also the "Holiday Inn" in Borehamwood 1.5 miles further south along the "A1" directly opposite "A1 Shooting ground"

They have fantastic facilities.

I have a corporate account with them and they offer a single ensuite room with 50% discount at £55 per night including full breakfast.

Claret know my number and email so give me a call if you need me to book it for you and anybody else if you need help please PM me.

Baldock is striaght up the A1 which is a very fast road about 15 - 17 miles away.

I am coming up that direction from the south passing both hotels. For overseas shooters who needs a lift PM me and I will see if I can help.

BTW in between stalks on saturday if anybody is interested you can all visit a clay pigeon shooting club for a proper cup of Italian coffee.

There are sporting clays plus Olympic trap and they serve the best coffe in town.

There are 02 club guns on the premesis if you shoot there and licencing is not an issue since all of us have some form of FAC (I hope ?)

I have 03 spare seats in my car and will be training there on saturday in between stalks.

I have discussed this with fallow buck and I think he will be coming as well.

Just an idea.................

BTW Steve Malinverni - just for you the club is a "proper" Tiro Campo run by an italian family so you will be very much at home there.

Who all is arriving on Thursday night? The N Ireland contingent should be there between 7.00pm and 8.00pm.

Anders, I tried to book late as well and have ended up at the Tudor Oaks Hotel (08081201917). Its about a half mile away and costs £68 for a night. The best bit is that they have jacuzzi baths to sooth those aches away.

Two breakfasts and two dinners are included. There will be stuff available for eating through the day like Bread, Pate cold meats and Cheese etc.

For anyone wanting to use the bunkhouse accomodation then you should bring a sleeping bag with you. I would suggest some VERY warm clothing as I don't know if the bunk houses are heated (or insulated even!!)

Regarding the stalking clothing I would say that again you will needd the very warmest clothing you have available.

The mornings at themoent are getting through zero and may be as low as -6 which will be significantly less with wind chill. Good warm gloves and a hat that really stops the wind are going to be a real help. A face veil of some description should also be included in your kit. You'd be surprised what a difference they make. Artemis put me onto the ultra thin tubes similar to what the flats fishermaen wear to keep the sun off. They double up as a neck warmer and can asl come up over your face. Haveing your face and hands covered in the stand will also make a massive difference to your potential success with the deer. They can spot movement from a LONG way away!!

Binos will be a very big help if you have them, as would a range finder, (although not vital).

Boots tend to be of the high walking type for preference. Wellies will do the job but will not likely keep you warm enough for the weather we are experiencing. other extra things will be a headlamp for walking out of the sats in the evening, (not going in in themorning).

The estate have asked that you keep a mobile handy in order to let your team leader know what you have got down on the ground. This will help the larder prepare for the beasts and help the extraction process in the case we need to call in quads or (hope not) Dogs for tracking.

We will have a comprehensive talk prior to the start of the Friday shoot. Sargent Major Ian will run the range session for shooting of the competence group. Please be at the Travel lodge or shooting lofdge if you remember the way from last year at about 11am to 11-30. We expect to need to leave at 2pm for afternoon sessions and we have a few things to get through before that so please don't be late.

Finally you will all need to be sure you have proper insurance, and proof of it, before the estate lets you out on the ground so don't forget your BASC cards or CA memberships. If everyone could send me a PM with their Email, I will send you a copy of the information form that needs to be filled in by everyone shooting on the ground. If you can fill it in and bring me a print out of it when you arrive that would be great.

Any more questions regarding kit or the programme then post away!!

Rgds,
FB
