Would anybody consider paying that much for a new Leupold scope with the following specification ? 8 times magnification range and 24 mm objective diameter ?

No! Even if it had a 40mm objective you must be giving up to much of something else. There are no free rides.

Something sounds wrong with that. However if anyone wishes to spend that much on a scope I can bring a truckload!!

Arild, I think it would be a good scope for shooting lamped rabbits with a .22lr, and by the looks of things, if one charged the truck you could do a laser lock on the running target. However I think I would need one of the special fighter pilot crash helmet visors with the internal screens!!

Does it have a range finder in it?

Well now that I've seen it it's a bit more than an 8x24 scope. That said I still don't see what's so special. For what it's worth the Leuopold warranty depot is about 1/2 hour from my house, they can put any kind of reticle in a scope we want.

This might be a case of just having a custom reticle made and adding it to an illuminated scope? If that's all that's necessary to make 3k on the sale of a scope I'm in dancing

cheers!

Whatever you say Kiri Wink
But for this old man, it´s much to complicated.

Picture me looking through the scope homing in on the by light half blinded rabbit.
Then putting on my reading glasses, confronting the user manual on page xx trying to decide which aiming point to choose.
Then back to the scope trying to find the said rabbit which by now has gone bored of beeing lamped, and has gone to the next field.... Frowner

No, I prefere an ordinary German #4 (but a small red dot does not hurt Wink)

Hi guys

I was very surprised to see the price of this scope. Technically Leupold have made it first make a 8x zoom

I recall Swarovski screaming at the top of Mount Blanc about them being the first to make a 6x zoom. Then the Japanese jumped in with 6.5 x. The rest is history.

We as consumer are the winners ultimately because other manufacturers have got to match in order to retain market share

The reticle is basically a T.M.R. with extra windage winglets and distance markers

If you take away the description label it not much more cluttered than a glorified mil dot

Don't know about you guys but I recently bought a Bushnell 6500 and it is really good value for money

Series 6500 (4.5-30 x 50)

For a little over 430 euros nett.

I have compared it side by side with my other Gucci and Louis Vuitton scopes and it is really really good value for money

BTW How about a new thread

YOUR FAVOURITE HUNTING RETICLE

I see many European manufacturers still offering the fence post (No. 4) as standard reticle when other manufacturers have moved on.

Once our generation of dinasaur hunters ( yes that's me and you) have died off I wonder what reticle the youngsters will go for ?

You give up either FOV or ER or maybe both when the scopes start having extended zoom ranges -- no free lunch when it comes to optics.

So we have beaten this Leupold to death before it is born narrow field of vision and tactical bah bah bah

Just managed to slip my order in for the latest Schmidt and Bender 1-8x24 with illuminated flash dot before the end of year tax rise

http://www.uttings.co.uk/Produ...8x24-ir-rifle-scope/

and for less than half the price of this Leupold !

It will sit on top of my medium game rifle replacing my old 1.1-4x24

Any takers ?

Please PM?

NO.

I do not like reticles that are "too busy".

Actually I have just found out that this scope was launched to coincide with the new USMC approved caliber

300 ACC Blackout

Basically it allows the US army to have one rifle for CBQ , supersonic and subsonic capability down range hence the large magnification.

Prices on the street has dropped by half now in the US to $2500

have a look at the end of this pdf

It all make sense now

NOT really for hunters

rather like the PMII Schmidt tubes.

A mere pittance!

One of our more esteemed members here paid me 50% more for a simple 2X-7X by 33mm scope three months ago.

Of course, it was sitting on a Chapuis DR.

Leupold keeps bringing out super-specialized (and expensive) toys like this, and seems saddened that the public does not go ga-ga over them.

I would not pay that money for any scope on the market.
Most of the best scopes on the market I use or I used including the leupold but Kahles is my favorite maker so far.
