Gents, I mentioned a while back that I was hoping to host and AR weekend at my shoot for those of you that would be interested in shooting some pheasant/Duck followed by a stint in a high seat that evening and the following evening. Unfortunately we would be unable to shoot deer on the morning following the game shoot as the keeper requires to do his rounds and feed his birs back in after the previous days festivities. The plan would be to shoot a days driven shooting aiming at a bag of about 100 head between 10 guns. If you shoot more in the alloted 5-6 drives then there is no extra cost, but I can be sure you will see a lot of good sporting birds. On arrival breakfast is provided. We would stop in the feild for elevensies of a quick sharpener, and some cake etc, and the evening will be rounded off with a hot meal and drinks in the shoot hut. I have a limited set of seats for the stalking and I'm offering it at no added cost to the game shooting for my AR freinds, so I will have to operate on a first come first served basis, or I am very comfortable with accepting bribery for the best spot!! Beaters and picker ups will be provided by us and there are no other costs for the day apart from a tip to the keeper. Total cost will be £300 per gun and I can arrange import permits for those of you coming from abroad. The proposed date will be 7th Nov. In addition to this I am hosting a Vintage Guns day on the 12th Dec where you will have the chance to shoot a variety of old hammer guns and best english sidelocks. Details are as above but without the stalking. Rgds, Kiri

Kiri, Would love to join in on the frollics but I am gutted to say that I'll still be in Scotland on the 7th Nov. If the date ever gets changed to anything other than the 31st to the 8th please count me in - but for now I will have to just evny you guys having fun with phez & fur while I will be freezing my nuts off in Sutherland. As for your December vintage day - if I ever get my circa 1900(ish) Collath drilling back from the menders - I would be delighted to show it to your birds! (I trust the "vintage" refers to the shotgun and not the standing gun). What ever happens - I hope you have a great days sport - sounds like a lot of fun. Rgs Nige

Nige, I've got some pictures from last years Vintagers day that I'll pu up when I get a chance. Dig brings a load of his guns along for people to use on the day. We had quite a variety of guns last year that were available for use and got sponsored with some black powder too. After the second drive where the guns were struggling to find the lead on the birds with the BP shells they moved back to nitro. the difference was amazing. ES, Is it the details on the vintagers day you were after? Rgds, K

Well November I guess...but actually December does quite appeal! I'd use my late father's Henry Clarke of Leicester boxlock ejector that he had bought for him by my grandfather in 1919 when he was twelve years old. They'd obviously no ejector models in stock...or wanted to get rid of an "on hand" non-ejector as the ejectors work by means of a "Westley Box" conversion. So yes...maybe December in fact!

Last year was a fun day. Diggs had a whole selection of vintage guns there which were well worth a look. My dog enjoyed it too! Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened. Sir Winston Churchill
