Hi
there plenty of second class ammo makers ,which the cost of ammo is far lower than well known ammo makers like PMC.PMP.PRVI.S&B and more. which one is making the best quality among them for both hunting and plinking use?

Have used S&B to take a good Czech stag with a 7x64. Bullets penetrated to off-side shoulder and dropped it.

PMP is also quite useful at moderate velocities. I have used the 180gn bullets to take a R.Hartebeest and b wildebeest with one shot each.

I don't have enough experience with the first bullet, but PMP ammo seems to do the trick for most hunting situations.

I have to agree with the above.

In my experience two hunting ammunition manufacturers that make the best of the inexpensive (relative to others) ammo have been PMP (RSA) and Geco (Germany).

Both make good value, accurate ammunition with pretty good bullets that have worked well for me (and my friends) without a lot of fuss & hoopla.

Cheers,

I've had reasonably good field experience with S&B ammo - although I hasten to note that I have only hunted with this ammo brand in one caliber and shot only about 6 critters with it. But what I did use it for, it worked as advertized.

I have also found S&B brass to be of pretty qood quality, although primer pockets tend to be a bit shallow (need uniforming with appropriate tool before priming).

gentlemen
I have tried S&B in various calibers with very diffrent result.
1-222 rem fmj very high pressure ,flattened primer and sticky bolt ,but not bad accuracy
2- 6,5x55 139 grain fmj good training round, but not too accurate.
3-8x57 js 198 fmj good training round, but it was difficult to stop the bullet it out penetrated everything Big Grin
4- 8x57js 198 grain SPCE bulletts excellent accuracy, but very soft bullet . I am using them för roe deer now,but not bigger games.
GECO is not available in the gun shops here and RWS which is excellen is too expensive for plinking and training.
jerry my first gun was a GECO in 22 lr a single shot. Big Grin

S&B hunting ammo can be of good service, their training ammo in 308 Win, 30-06. 6,5x55 and some other cals have flaws such as high pressure, soft brass, uneven loads and so forth, I wont use it in my rifle..

Hi husqvarna m98
I wonder if we have received a bad batch of S&B's FMJ ammo in Sweden or it is the same in the other countries too! because i've heared the same complaint from other hunters too and i've seen how 222 remington fmj acted in my poor old brno fox Confused
I don't know if the hunting ammos are realy safe, but so far i haven't had a problem with them

I have in .223 and 9 mm, its copper washed soft iron bullets and steelcases.

The cases are lacquered in the case mouth and the schellack can by heat become soft and gum up your chamber.

To play with and for plinking its ok, there is a funky smell to the gunpowder when burned.

Best regards Chris

Hi guys - been shooting GECO factory 9,3x74R T-mantel 255gr this weekend with my Merkel and must give it a thumb - good accuracy and I bet it would be good on driven boars as well.

I have tried Prvi Partizan ammo from serbia. It's really cheap compared to others (even the likes of S&B, etc.).
The .30 cal 180 grain Round nose GROM were a poor choice, not much weight retention and not really accurate.
The Partizan PPU Match line 168 grain HPBT's were however a pleasant surprise: probably the best accuracy from a factory ammo I've got from my .30-06.
All this is overshadowed by the barrel-fowling, though. I don't know what 15th century powder they use, but after 3 shots the barrel looks like a chimney that hasn't been cleaned for 200 years.

I have tried their .223 in my SL8. Not very accurate and a real pain in the a** when you have to clean the chamber. I have about 800 rounds left, but won't shoot them in that gun again. Maybe in a bolt rifle, if I let it cool between shots.

Hum so no deal on Barnaul after all - just a note on GECO - everything on it, is just a plain good old RWS - looks like it is a RWS after all but they just use it as cover for keeping up appearances Wink - Can you imagine RWS - cheap? Smiler

Pulled some heads from S&B factory loads and found the load to look like sweepings from a shop floor !

Won't shoot it through my rifles.
