Hello, I have besides my 550 magnum rifle Ceska a rifle at 700 Remington 338 caliber Winchester Magnum, please recommend weights for this caliber bullet. It is to hunt animals between 200 and 350 pounds.

Thank you,

Oscar.

Ovny,

I shoot a lot of 230 grain Failsafe Winchester loads in my 338. Any of thr premium bullets between 225 and 250 gr will do fine for you.
High quality bullets like Nosler partitions, TSX Barnes, will do a good job for you. Just find out which one your gun shoots best and use it.

i would go with a premium 250gr bullet.
(200gr is in my opinon a suitable weight for .30" calibers).

If you want to use that caliber in Europe, consider loading a 200 grain bullet from either Nosler BT or Speer SP in front of N110 or Blue Dot to about 720 m/s.

It kills roe deer and wild boar very well and destroys very little meat, the resulting energy from that light loads corresponds to the old 8x57 I/IR, not the more powerful "S"-calibers and is very soft to shoot.

Also a good practice round for the range.

Thank you for your responses, I shall continue using the tips of 200 grains, but I'll try to find models that you said I had. Unfortunately I am not going too hunting in Spain and our law on weapons is very restrictive. In most of firing ranges for the maximum distance shooting is limited to 50 meters.

Thank you for everything and greetings,

Oscar.

I´m a believer in one bullet for all game in a specific caliber.

A 250 gr Woodleigh or A-Frame does not destroy more meat than a 200 gr zizzler under normal hunting conditions.

If one like to wring out the maximum long range potential in the 338 Winnie, then I understand the urge for light bullets.
Otherwise I tend to go for the standard or heavy weights.

But thats just an old mans opinion Wink

I have used bullets from 210 grains to 250 grains on a variety of game from 100 to 700 pounds and never recovered a bullet, they all passed through. Since the virtue of heavy bullets is increased penitration, and since the 210's penitrate completly, plus have flatter trajectory, I have settled on the Nosler partition in 210 grain wieght for all my .338Win loads. A great hunting cartridge, as close to an all around one gun arsenal as you can get.

Arild Hello,

The problem of using a tip so heavy in the fauna of Spain is not good for the piece. A wild boar in whipped, with the adrenaline high fits well the shooting. A tip of 250 grains crosses without killing the animal at the time. It is not just a rececho in which the animal is calm in a raid in which the animal is like a locomotive.

People are not old, the clothes are old people is how you feel.

A friend greetings and thanks,

Oscar.

That is precisely the problem of heavy loads, that the projectile passed the animal. Now there are people in Spain this tips using 180 grains, to shoot further. I do not know that result is obtained with this caliber of weight in a thick like this, so I used weights tipped in an area which ranges between 200-225 or 200-210 grains, to avoid losing trophies for not relinquish projectile his energy.

Thanks LJRivard,

Oscar.
