The answer is NO, IT IS NOT!!!! I thought it was clear for everybody, until few days ago, when we received an email with an inquire from a hunter regarding a brown bear hunt in this fall. Of course we reply that for the moment the brown bear in Romania is suspended and we hope they will re-open in this fall but we can not take bookings. The hunter ask me if I am sure because he found some info over the internet where they say Romania has re-open the bear hunts. And here what I found: https://www.safariclub.org/wha...-of-bears-and-wolves Coming from such a prestigious organisation, no doubt people will believe. Now look what is the real situation in Romania. Indeed the actual Environment Minister Gratiela Gavrilescu, announced that UP TO 140 PROBLEM bears can be killed or relocated. But for this bears can not be hunt by foreign hunters, not even by Romanian hunters. They need to be killed by local rangers and only the bears are making problems. And most important issue, for those bears, nobody will issue a CITES certificate and without the CITEs, TROPHIES CAN NOT BE EXPORTED! Good news are that are rumours the bear hunt will be reopen in this but until official announcement, nobody should book a bear hunt in Romania. | ||

https://www.facebook.com/game.animals/ This was posted on Game Animals of the Past and Present Facebook.Maybe this is where he heard about it. The Romanian Bear Problem Seems to be Resolved 21 June 2018 At the end of April 2018, the Romanian Ministry of the Environment adopted a draft action plan for the brown bear population. This action plan is part of a European LIFE project (BEAR LIFE), developed by the Romanian Forestry and Research Institute. Dr. Árpád Sárkány, Vice-President of the International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC), József Benke, member of the CIC, Dr. Ovidiu Ionescu CIC Expert and Dr. Valeriu Bolgiu, the Head of the CIC Romanian Delegation, were actively involved in the working group, which developed the final form of the action plan. The action plan identified four different regions in Romania, based on the density of the bear population, and, taking into account the various damages caused, states that hunting is a way of restoring the optimum population in areas which are overpopulated. This means that the population is regulated by hunting, based on the hunting laws. The principle of sustainable use, that the CIC endorses, now strongly predominates thanks to the work of the aforementioned people. The CIC also contributes to the decision-making process through the Large Carnivore Platform, and gave this topic a high priority on the agenda of our 65th General Assembly in Madrid this year, including a meeting organized between the European Commission, the President of Nordic Hunters, and the President of the Finnish Hunters’ Association. Dr. Árpád Sárkány participated with the other members of the Romanian CIC Delegation at a public hearing in the Romanian Parliament and at a public debate organized for the press. On May 23rd, the Romanian Parliament accepted the modification of Law no. 49/2011, par. 38, which states that it is mandatory for the Romanian Ministry of Environment—in compliance with the requirements of the EU Environmental Protection Directive— to approve a hunting quota each year for the management of wildlife. The CIC believes that this law will ensure a solution in the short- and medium term to solve the problems stemming from the overpopulation of wildlife and is proud to have played a major role in the development of this large carnivore management plan in Romania.
