Here in America ,certainly in my Norwegian neighborhood in Brooklyn, we always called it Independence Day though technically it's Constitution Day. I was in the parade every year as a kid.

Yes, Norwegian roots... my last name is Amundsen. Ring any bells?

I still have relatives in Norway whom I have visited. My mother is fourth generation American but is of 100% Norwegian lineage. My grandfather spoke Norwegian. My father is only 1/2 Norwegian... very sad for him.

May 17 is also my brother's Birthday... we spent May 17 in Bergen one year and the locals treated him royally... FUN!

Well my wife has some Norwegain blood so I don't mind a (part) Norwegian root.

(I hope she doesn't read this, else I am rooted).
