Stand fast there Pete! Before you spend 45 on a drag mat consider a hay square (as we call them around here) It is a square of rot-proof woven material about 1.25 metres square with a handle stiched onto each corner. I have been using one as a carcass dragger for years. The only cost a few pounds from a tack shop or agricultural merchant. To avoid slipping on the rungs of a high seat simply mix in some sharp sand to a tin of ex-army green paint and apply direct to galvanised steel. I painted a highseat like this 10 years ago and it is still as non-slip as anything I have seen.

Ed, What species do you intend carrying? The item your mate is taking about is called a "plasters bath" and goes not around 35 around here..It's a black polythene type plastic similar to the stuff water tanks are made of. However my local farm supply does a white fibre glass "feed trough" which is exactly the same for around 20! The pic below shows one I bolted to a steel frame to make a "hitch hauler" for my previous Trooper. It will hold 3 roe, or a good sized fallow doe or reasonable pricket... After loading the whole thing was covered in a tarp to keep the crap out... The problem with the trough is the way its moulded as in effect you lose a lot of internal space when compared to the external measurments, if you see what I mean... If you are doing mostly roe and muntjac its fine, but otherwise its a little cramped. The commercial tray shown at the top of the thread will hold lots more, mind you it should for the price! The reason I posted this stuff is there are not much in the way of specialist stalking kit in this country and I think its good to encourage people who are trying to supply it. In this case, while the prices are not "Cabela's" they are not "Jaegger Sport" either! My other thought was that some people here might be managing deer on a semi professional basis and so might get such kit through there Estate so cost is not such an issue. regards, Pete

An empty dumpy bag, we have lots.EU rules post bse mean that tonne bags used for animal feed are non-returnable. The other looks like the plastic sledge we drag the kids around the field on.... 135 baah! go to a car boot sale and you'll get one and some change if you haggle for a pound coin.
