I'm interested to hear from anyone who has hunted on this estate. Tell me about the quality of accomodations, and the hunting experience overall. Is it a fenced estate? http://www.countrysports.co.uk/sheets/xnewtscenery.htm ...."At some point in every man's life he should own a Sako rifle and a John Deere tractor....it just doesn't get any better...."

Hi Trackers, I haven't hunted here but it looks like a typical highland sporting estate, and a nice one at that!! None of these estates are fenced in scotland. You get the occasional park (some bigger than others) whhere you can hunt rare species like Pere David or Barrasingha. everything on Newtonmore will be free roaming though. When are you thinking of going up there? It looks like I might be going up with Wendell next year somewhere in that region, (probably a bit further south). The estate is in the Cairngorm region by the looks of the map so it is easily accesible and you should have nearby towns that you can go to visit of eat in of an evening. Best regards, FB

Most likely August/Sept 2007. Red Deer, Roe Deer and Grouse or whatever is best in season then. How are the Roe Bucks at that time of year? ...."At some point in every man's life he should own a Sako rifle and a John Deere tractor....it just doesn't get any better...."

Hi Tracker, I'm no expert, but I'd be tempted to look into the end of September. Either way you will probably be too late for the Roe Rut but you might hear some stags roaring late in September. The Roe will be about all through apart from a quiet couple of weeks at the end of the rut, (or at least that is how I have heard it works). On top of all that the walking will be more comfortable and there may be a few les midges. Walked up grouse should still be available later in september over pointers and you might even have a chance at a back end salmon if conditions are right and there is a river on the estate. Persoally once you have your stag I'd keep chasing the Roe about if they still have quota left. That is unless you want another stag!!! RGds, FB
