...and chalk me up for three bucks and three bullets.

Actually I had a small bet with myself this morning, and guesssed who would be the first three replies and most shot.

Well done guys. Although I really enjoy my fallow stalking, the Roe is my favourite by far when I rarely get the chance. Any Photo's?

Sorry to say. I've yet to score. Enjoyed three outings, seen three possible bucks but so far eluded me....
Take this mornings escapade, I walked for an hour and a half in an effort to catch a roebuck out that I figured would be browsing on a bank of young conifers. I rounded the final corner and glassed the trees for 5mins. Not there...Jolly dog's under my feet on point, never looked at him, stumbled over him. The buck is 20 yards away on the ride edge, been watching me looking for him for last 5 mins!
He takes off in puzzled fright up the bank, at 90 yards he stops and looks back, I have the crosshairs on him and he moves off again.Gets to the top and looks back again, I can see his head and neck, I guess at his shoulder and shoot. In 2 paces he's out of sight.
Spend the next hour searching with the dog for the deer...or a paint mark... or even a hair...Nothing at all.
Later I try to recreate the shot. Uphill off the thumbstick; I shoot 2 rounds and they're both 5 inches high!
Feeling better now, I'm babysitting while the wife's down the pub! Took the children down our front track see if we can get a rabbit for ferrets' supper. Freehand 22wmr awkward shot, 80 yard rabbit, uphill, I can only see his head. Bang- spot on!!

They're looking a bit thin up here in Cumbria at the moment, going to leave them for a week or two till things get a bit greener. l've got two on my little patch that are definate candidates for the freezer.

we've just started to see them on my patch in Sussex, so we're still not shooting them. I did take one last year that had a gammy leg but that was it.

Fallow Buck.

My patch is local to Greystoke forest, where there is a steadily growing population. The ground l'm on is farmed by a friend who has little knowledge of deer, so l'm trying to get a management plan done for him. The wood is only 65 acres there will be roughly 2/3 shootable (poor quality) in there this year, to bring the population to a manageable level and to stop the damage. A really nice 6 point (for our area) moved in last back end, and l'm please to say he's still here this spring.

Hi Folks.

Got back from sunny Norway(!) having missed the opening weekend. It was a bonus to find a phone message waiting. Local farmer complaining that Roe were busting through his hedges - could I please go reduce the problem?

Got onto the ground which spanned a small valley and could see seven animals spread over the other side of the combe. After a wet and blustery day, they were now grazing happily in the evening sun.

With three bucks in sight, I managed to slip down to the bottom of the combe get into a sitting position in some cover. Shortly afterwards the first candidate moved into view and was successfully dropped from 60m.

Up the other side of the valley and a sneak across the wind line yielded a shot of 170m and another buck to add to the evenings cull.

Now Roe are not the biggest animals in the world - but have you ever noticed how they get heavier when you carry them up a forty degree slope for a few hundred metres?

A bit of panting and sweating - then back to the larder to ponder on why the deer are always on the OTHER side of the valley!



A couple of cull bucks provided an enjoyable start to the season - now to find some more mature beasts for my Norwegian friends. They will be over to visit in a couple months time!

I've not shot any yet but I'm going stalking on monday evening,I saw a nice buck on the way to work yesterday,he was just 80yds from the road with two does.

Had good evening stalking tonight, culled 2 young bucks and got a fox @ 284yds lasered with .243, first time stalking with P.E.S sound mod on rifle, well impressed

Got a cracking buck,38lbs field dressed,time to get the sausage maker out again.
