Hi all,

I hope you are all doing fine and that the opening of seasons has begun for you all.

Here in Sweden the season is closing for real now,

in the next few months up to august pretty much only yearlings of wild boar will be allowed and for some counties there is a spring season for roe buck, bucks only.

To lessen this dull down season I have been doing my best to keep busy.

In Sweden by tradition the military has had a large shooting association that shoot CG80 and Sauer rifle with diopters, this form of competition is known as field target, loosly translated.

Well you all know me, I am a bit of a weak shot so I just had to have a go at this when the news came in that they were allowing, as a test and for a limited time scoped rifles and shooters to attend.

The rules are "simple"

shooting is done prone or kneeling, 6 shots at 45 or 60 sec, targets are known in size but at unknown range, you have one 1 minute to range it and adjust for drop and wind.

I took part of my first test comp at the 21 of march.

here is the scoring sheet,

1. Mikael K 5-5-6-6(23)-6(23) ----- 28 träff
2. Mattias B 6-5-6-5(11)-6(26) ----- 28 träff
3. Christian N 6-6-5-5(19)-6(26) ----- 28 träff
4. Gunnar W 3-6-6-4(11)-6(18) ----- 25 träff
5. Sebastian S 4-6-0-5(20)-6(26) ----- 21 träff
6. Nils-Erik H 4-3-6-2(2)-6(22) ----- 18 träff
7. Alexander L 3-2-2-0(0)-4(10) ----- 11 träff
8. Fredrik L 0-3-1-1(4)-5(17) ----- 10 träff
9. Mikael R 1-0-1-1(2)-6(20) ----- 9 träff

that would be me in third place, Wink

the shooting was ower five stations and one sighter station,

here are a few pics from the comp.

My scorecard,

you get feedback from the scoring trench of how you are doing,

ranges was,
0. sighters
1. 170 meter
2. 250
3. 300
4. 265
5. 280 45 sec only

I had a great time and it was great pratice.

During the shoot we had shifting winds in both strenght and direction.

Hi all,

thank you nr 10 I mean Gerry,

it was all fun and all ranging, doping and shooting,

I had a second chance this last weekends to go shooting, same theme but at known ranges,

30 shots, 24 for score.
300 meters x 2, first six was sighters only and the second was scored 5x6= 30 was max

400 meters x 2

500 meters

600 meters

This was my first time beyond 300 meters at a comp and I had a dropchart that was not yet verified.

I did ok

I managed to keep them all on the paper,

being the one scoped rifle shooter to do so I guess that would make me nr 1,

however Mike a guy I would love to bring with me over to you guys, shot a 30 at the 300 meter target, that is 6 rounds in a 55 mm circle or less at 45 seconds, really good.

500 meter

There is some work to be done on the form..

I think that I have found a decent past time for the off season, I just have to get my self a bipod and some mre practice.

Well this is my way of saying that I am envious of you all that have open seasons and can go hunting instead of punching paper.

1. Why is everyone laughing?

I belive that I made an off the cuff remark, I belive that is the proper use of the saying about laying prone as to lay spooning on the shooting berm, that the one is more condutive for good shooting than the other. They might have laughed at me or with me.

2. What's all that "White" stuff?

It´s known as snow and in Sweden it´s most common that we get the last snow storms aka blizzards as late as mid april.

This year we might, fingers crossed have seen the last of the snow.

Good times Chris, how often do these things happen? Once a month, more often?

Compared to my club shoot at bisley once a month it seems much more useful!

Thanks for taking the time to post. It looks like a very enjoyable way to spend a day.

Your targets lok very impressive. Just so I can get some perspective on things what size groups were you putting in (rough estimation) at 500 and 600 metres?

Thanks

Jon

Amir-

the full scale comps are shot in late winter, early spring and then again late fall.

Has a lot to do with the fact that the comps are shot in the "field" and that there are fewer people about at those times of the year,

the practice comps that I have attended are shot monthly throughout the season.

Jon-the size of the targets at 5 and 600 hundred meters are,

600 meters B65 Tunna7Barrel 50x65 cm looking at my target I am off my aiming point by about 5cm left for the cluster of the shots, in all the six shots are within 20 cm of each other,

not great but remember I took all shots within 60 sec or so.

500 meters target Tunnan/Barrel 40x50 cm, I put in to many klicks and I my POI and POA differs, about 10 cm to high or 1-2 klicks to many, vertical spread about 20 cm and horizontal spread less than 20 cm.

Best regards Chris

Completely different approach here, I have never really been into target shooting or joining clubs of any description.

I do a fair bit of fishing over the spring and summer.

I do spend a lot of time in the garden. I have spent the last couple of weekends moving all the soft fruit. I have gooseberrys, raspberrys, red currants, black currants etc.

I got three large potato beds in a two weeks ago.

I have a lot of work to do there this spring. I will get all the other vegt and salad crops going over the next week.

This is how it looks this morning, still pretty barren here in mid April:

I really am tuning into an old fart...

A lucky old fart perhaps, the closest approximation I have available to your pastoral idyll is a patch of grass that teenagers get drunk and make fox mating noises on.

The bastards.

I'm turning into an old fart.. shocker

Barren!! You are joking aren't you Brian, you have 'thorn coming into bud and Daffs in flower.

We had 2 snow drop flowers, the wind soon wiped there heads off and we now have one Daff flower head - this will soon perish as my aged Lab, is loving urinating on it thrice a day!!

Oh to be able to grow veg, my wife would be in heaven!!

At least we have all the tourists trapesing about the Peak District this weekend, cannot even go and whack into the Canadas on the heather!!!

Happy Easter all....

Richard, the daffs are past their best now, they have been out for about a month.

The Blackthorn has just come into bloom over the past week. The Hawthorn and Hornbeam hedges are just coming into bud this past two or three days.

We had a bit of a false start this year, we had about ten days mild sunny weather in mid March, so I got cracking outside. However the weather has gone to hell again over the past fortnight.

I have a broody hen on a clutch of eggs for two weeks now, D day is next weekend. Another hen has just gone broody over the last day, I might set her on a nest of duck eggs.

Thinking of changing my name to "Brian-fearlessly-eats-it-all". Big Grin

CD/Brian- that is just plain not nice, I wish I had a plot to farm to, I just love it, however were I live my neighbors would take offence should I plow and till the lawns.

Take care all and thanks for some really nice pics.

Great fun.

We do the same kind of shooting on this side of the border (the right side) as well. I use a sporterised Krag Jørgensen from 1909 in 6,5x55, but the more serious guys all use Sauer's. I dont think scopes or bipods are allowed in any class over here.

This is a link the last local shootout

Thanks for the encouragement gents. Spent this morning getting the semi-permanent beds ready for planting out. I do most of the spade work. The wife does the clever stuff.

Here's how it looks now. I will update in a few weeks when stuff starts to show above ground:

I watch a little TV and hang out in pubs.

Sometimes do some summer roe hunting, sometimes just stick to hunting DVDs. It's nice to have the option though!

900 SS even though I am huge on Sashime that seems to be the wrong end of the fish,

perhaps it´s an Norweigian thing? Wink

Any ways, bored to near death and with no decent fishing around,

I called a few of my hunting buddies and had them come over for a bit of a private comp.

The idea was to mimic hunting, one shot that had to be 100% sure of a hit taken at the range decided by the shooters own judgement,

Well I had a few of those animal targets set out in the fields and also a few out of season targets,

prior to every station the shooters were given the conditions for the hunt.

one of the shooters expresses his idea of the range in question

Can you see the targets?

Posing for the camera man

A keen observer notes the snow flakes in the air, we had all four seasons of the year on this one saturday.

Last I just had all part of my latest project come together,

Anschütz 1427 with a Mark 4 Leupold on it.

Toy gun..

A mere 75 days or so left untill a new seasons opens.

I had the toy gun out at the range last weekend,

five rounds to have it on paper, five ronuds made for a 40 mm group @ 100 meter, seconf five shot group dead on.

As a result from my previous activities I was invited to shoot with a group of hunters/eftersöksjägare, ie bloodtraildog handlers, that deal with big part of the tracking taking place after road accidents/poor shots in the stockholm area.

We shot at 300 meters, 475 meter and then some at 50 meters.

from the 300 meters berm

a few of the rest of the shooters

I did drop the ball for the 300 meters shot at the moose, managed to have thre shots a bit far back, three T:s for score,

however at 475 I had two good tre shot series,

the first attempt slighty high and back, 3 T hits only, for my second attempt I had three 5:1Red Facenes,

This was the first great weather day of the spring and we all enjoyed it greatly.

Btw I am turning 34 today, having a spot of food at a nice place this evening to celebrate,

and I treated myself to a new backpack, have you seen my old one you know why,

Best regards Chris

Ok, I passed some time last weekend with some friends and here is the short version:

It's around 50 kilometres from where the road ends and the snow and ice was very wet and no good for snowmobiles this pic is the first time we got stuck (rear snowmobile.

The next is the last time around half past three in the morning almost six hours after the first time. And we had a lot of trouble in between

The first day of fishing we caught one very small and one edible fish, not what we hoped but there was plenty to drink and lots of good stories.

The next day went a lot better.

We went back at night and all in all we got around 160 fish or 50 kilos. They eat very well.

The trip home took less than two hours since the ice and snow had dried up, the last picture is from when we packed up.
