nice pics Montero! Was this in the Alps or in the Pyrenees - or some other location like Balkan or Rumania??

This is a doe, right?? She sure has high horns! From the looks of her face, she also has a few years to her credit...

mike,
it was in the Alps.
because of the angle in which the picture was taken, and the fact that the horns are not thick, it does looks like a female but it is a male. a 105 CIC points, eleven year old male.
the hunt was a fantastic one indeed.
Waidmanns danke!

Monterro,
Condratulations on your Chamois trophy. I will be hunting Gredos Ibex about 2hrs North of Madrid this coming November. Can you tell me what the terrain is like and at what elevation the Ibex are in?

Congratulations. It looks like it's a fairly large chamois. I have seen much smaller in Austria and hunters were flammed about them?

What type of mount will you on the chamois

Was is your 6,5X65R that bagged this animal? let us know. Great pictures.

Saludos

Alvaro,

Polka looks a little cold! I hope your x57R will be as lucky.

Yeah, the landscape and - in particular - the dog looked like this could be somewhere in Austria or Bavaria (only second guess).

I'll second Johan's question, did you hunt with a breaktop gun? It could look a little like a Blaser M77 All-Weather - although the only picture that allows you to (halfway) take a look at the gun, is a bit fogged in...

11 years is a fantastic trophy. Much much Weidmannsheil!

Hawkeye47,
Thank you for the congratulations.
Gredos is 2 maybe 2 1/2 hours from Madrid's airport but to the West, not to the North. November, with December, is the time of the year I like best. Depending on the weather and on which part of the month you come, the ibex could be rutting. You may have snow, but anyway, you'll find the ibex well above the timberline. Highest altitude in Gredos is Mt. Almanzor, which is 8500-8600 feet, but you won't need to go above 6500, maybe lower. You will see lots of game and you'll be able to choose a nice trophy, and above all, you will have a wonderful time.
If you spend some time in Madrid feel free to contact me at your convenience.

Johan,
As Mike pointed out, rifle was a K77 All Weather, and cartridge was the 6,5x65R loaded with 120gr Nosler Balistic Tips at 3,150 fps.
Mount will be European skull mount as there is not much room left on the walls in my house [Wink]

1894,
My friend, you have made exactly the same comment I made when I first saw the photograph!

Mike,
You are a sharp observer!

Regards to all,

Montero
