I would like to ask if bullet Sierra Game King in 7 mm /.284 dia/ end .30 cal, is hard or soft for deer sized hunting. I shot this year 2 roebucks end the bullet went through the body. The exit wound was minimal. End bullet had effect of a FMJ. It has to be said, that the roebuck body had very little weight. Sorry for my english.

I shoot the Sierra GK in my 7x64. For Roe, I load the 160 gn BTSP and it works perfectly. If I may chance upon Wild boar, I'll switch to the 160 BTHP, which is a much harder magnum bullet. As a bonus both shoot to the POI and are very accurate to boot.

3 shots do not make a group, they show a point of aim or impact.
5 shots are a group.

Defintely a soft bullet. Very good on deer, probably less good for pigs. I had some 130gr in Federal Premiums a few years ago, killed very well.

I have been using Sierra 165 gr GAMEKING HPBT in my 300 WBY for years (MV 3300 FT/S), to shoot deers and boars. I worked as a hard bullet in most of the cases. If the size of the boar is small to medium (35-70 kg) all the side shoots exited. It can be the same for does and for big deers and big boars (more than 90 kg) it depend on the angle and the size of the animal. It worked wonderfully in my rifle (penetration and very good accuracy).

I used the 8mm 220 game king in a 8mm Remington Magnum for a while. Nothing wrong with it.

Carcus,

I cannot say for sure whether they are hard or soft.

I can though state that I have experienced similar to you when using 165 gr. .308" Sierra Game King SPBT'S on small Roe Deer shot at a distance.

On several occaisions these bullets have simply whizzed right through Roe Deer like a FMJ (.308" in - .308" out) when I was shooting at say, over; @ 175 meters.

On Wild Boar, Red Deer, Fallow, Sika and large Roe Deer the Sierra Game Kings in both SPBT & HPBT have performed very well over a wide spectrum of ranges and velocity. They are also spectacularly accurate in the .30/06 Sprg's I've used them in.

My experience appears to depict these are good bullets and they penertrate well, too.

Cheers,

Carcus,
I had pretty much the same experience with Sierra Game Kings in .308 SPBT with whitetail deer. When shooting them broadside the Game Kings tended to shoot straight through, even when shot in the shoulder. I never had a deer walk anywhere after being shot with them and they were great on hogs too.
As to your english, you're doing fine.

The Hunt goes on forever, the season never ends.

I didn't learn this by reading about it or seeing it on TV. I learned it by doing it.

5 months ago, I shot a nice roe buck with my Tikka 300 WM and Gameking HPBT 165 g (HPBT are supposed to be tougher than plain Gameking); distance was 160/170 meters, it was almost broadside and slightly uphill. The bullet entered in the rear upper part of the shoulder and totally exploded against the spine, no exit hole; I could only find some little crumbs of lead and copper inside the thorax. I definitely will not use any Sierra bullet again on anything bigger than a roe deer or a chamois, and only due to their great accuracy. I have just booked a red deer hunt in Poland for the next autumn, but there, I will use Nosler Partitions 180 g. or Norma Oryx 200g.
