Seal meat is very good. Does not taste like fish, but more like.. eh.. very good meat. The seals have great eyesight and a fine nose, but not as fine as a dog. I do believe it reacts to movement. It may watch you on a distance, and when you approach it jumps to the sea. Its a courious animal that may appear only 20-30 meter from your boat to take a look at you. Usually a shot is taken when it is on a rock. Else it will sink to the bottom. It may flote a bit, but it may also sink rapidly. Enormous amount of blood in that body. Only headshot is proper shooting. Range may be as close as 50 meters but usually between 100-200 meter. There is allowed to fire from the boat, but this is not recommended. You will miss the small target more often than you hit. Usually I use the boat around looking, when a seal is observed I trie to find a little isle or rock to climb on to. Bipod and a fast caliber using the v-max bullet is the right medicine for an headshot. If you shoot the body it will jump to sea, die and sink.

If it is cute, it deserves to live forever. May seals and foxes throughout the world never die!! On a serious note, how would you rate seal meat? I believe it is very dark red, looks great. Do seals use their eyesight more, or is the wind important too when hunting them?

From 2. jan 2005 hunters from other countries may join norwegian hunters on sealhunting. Several newspapers from abroad really reacts to it quite negative. The articles is not correct. There is no seal baby hunting. http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2004460702,,00.html http://observer.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,6903,1318571,00.html http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/tm_objectid=14715006&method=full&siteid=89488&headline=-pound-650-to-kill-baby-seals-name_page.html Really sucks these articles. Foreign hunters may believe those. Sealhunting is quite a challenge, and no different from hunting any other animal. I myself hunt some seal. Its challinging and demands marksmanship and patience. The sea is big and a seal can hide everywere. Pictures of one of my hunts you can see here: http://homepage.mac.com/ivan.silden/PhotoAlbum2.html There are some companies that offer guided hunting, but theyve got treaths trough e-mails and may back-off. Thats really bad.

Which caliber is most popular for this hunt? I assume this is not a trophy hunt, or do you compare seals by weight?
