Flyboy270,

Red and fallow deer stalking is offered by several commercial organizations and carried out during the rut (September/October) usually in fenced areas ranging from 1,000 to 5,000 hectares. These areas are to be found all over the country.
There are a few areas where free roaming red deer can be found, but those areas are managed mostly by hunter’s associations, and it is very difficult to get an invitation to stalk there.
From October to end of February its “montaria” (sort of driven hunt) season for wild boar and sometimes also for reds (mostly on those areas where they are free roaming).
“Montarias” for wild boar are very common all over the country and are not very expensive. Depending on the organization and the expectations the fee can range from 80 to 300€. If it’s a commercial organization and reds or fallows or muflons are included then the price can range from 500€ up to 5,000€, depending on the allowed bag (“cupo”).
On fenced areas culling of females (Red, Fallow and Muflon) is also available from August until May. On some of these areas we pay a daily fee (around 150€) plus a fixed amount per culled animal (usually 50€) and the organization keeps the meat. On other areas (like the one I use) we simply pay a fee for each doe we cull (185€ for fallow and 225€ for red) and we keep the meat.
Wild boar can also be hunted all year round during the full moon period. Some areas charge a fixed amount per night and others charge an amount per night plus an amount per shot. And there are also other organizations charging a fee according to the exposed length of the tusks.
Hope this information can help.

Matts,

Most of the hunting organizations don’t have an Internet site and they usually sell their hunts by advertising on hunting magazines.
One of the best organizations does have an Internet site, but the major part of it is in Portuguese. The English part of the site is really small but will give you an idea about what they have to offer. In order to hunt with them you would have to book at least one year in advance.
This organization offers all sort of hunting on their own Estates and also “montarias” on the best areas of Portugal and Spain. I have hunted with them for many years.
