Hi all, been a long time. Just too busy doing other stuff. Felt like sharing this story. Red stags are in season here in Norway theese days. Haven't got one myself, but my brother had a once in a lifetime experience yesterday. He discovered this stag through the woods about 100m upfront of him. Unable to shoot he made a grunt sound, trying to call the stag closer. In an instant the stag turned and came running towards him. Stopped at 10m and dropped to the ground as the sound of his rifel roamed through the valley. 17 pointer, 109 kg, unofficially measured by "Anders" 175 +- cic points.

Very nice !! Mine is only a female cull animal .Yes in NY state ! But it's in the freezer as of yesterday. I came back for another look But am I not doing the numbers properly ?? 109 kg x 2.2 =240 lbs ?? Should be more than that. Unless you hunt pigmy hjort !

Mr. G, A hearty Waidmannsheil to your brother. Nifty Stag indeed; not too long but VERY heavy in the beam for a Viking Stag with lots of points - sweet! The crowns on the end of the main beams are a highly desired trophy developement here in The Fatherland and the right-hand side with it's 5 point cup is spectacular! Cheers, Number 10

17-pointers are extremely few and far between. One beautiful animal this lucky man got. At 109 kgs, though, he must have done one hell of a lot of running after the does and the competition. No easy day for a buck now in the rut... Charlie's listening!

That last photo really shows how fast they can loose a lot of weight ! The ones we saw here at the end of the rut could barely raise their heads when we approached ! Totally wasted .

I'll bring all of your greetings along to my brother! mete, your math should be correct. The rut is at it's peak now days and most stags have suffered quite high weight losses. I did post a picture from my "spycam" last year showing the same stag in a much better shape. I reckon then at least 130-150 kg. Here is the picture from last year: formula1guy, he delivered the head to the taxidermist today and I'll post the result as soon as it gets back. Gerry, still haven't forgot about your tunneling tool! It sure is a great trophy, not many of those around here. Although a friend of mine shot a 21 pointer at the neighbour ground some years ago (this stag was only 118 kg). Lets hope he already past on his genes before yesterday Bukken, yes! Probably the reason why only 109 kg. Cheers!

What a wonderful wild stag. The mass of the antlers is most impressive. Given its age and the time of year, I'm pretty sure he had a chance to pass on his genes more than a few times.

Boghossian, I'm sure he did. If not this year, at least last year and years before that. Don't know how old this stag is, but i reckon 10-12 years maybe? Very impressive mass!

BTW, what rifle ? It loks like it might be a pump action with moderator ??
|

No pump action, but a semi automatic Browning bar short trac, cal. 308., and yes there is a moderator.

It's now official. This stag was measured this weekend and the cic score is 177,8p. Congrats to the lucky hunter Anders, your guess 175+- was quite accurate
