I have an upcoming hunt and was curious how to handle this. Do you carry a $5000 wad of cash? Can fees be paid with credit cards? I'm assuming travelers checks went out with the smoking section in airplanes.

Europe? Why couldn't you IBAN transfer the money?

Before or after the hunt?

Saying that I am going to Hungary and Austria this year and neither one of them wants an IBAN.

Spanish guys don't want an IBAN unless you want to pay the VAT on it.

IBAN - International Bank Account Number

Not all countries support these.

So in America the bank has it's own IBAN. In Europe it is more common for individuals to have their own IBAN attached to their bank accounts.

I have both and it is a very simple transaction to send someone money via IBAN.

For example my primary American Credit Union does not have member IBANs. It is about a $30 charge to send money to an IBAN. They also suck at it, and have screwed up multiple transfers.

My European based American bank everyone has their own IBAN, and I can do it in my online checking.

I don't know anything about the financial industry, but I think having an IBAN account is probably somewhat rare in the USA.

.

Whom are you paying - Denis or the Bulgarian outfitter ?

Either way not a big deal - just do a wire transfer from the states in EURO to their bank account or cash.

Just back from a UK hunt and we took and paid cash.

Cash still works. I can't remember an international trip I have ever taken in my life with less than $5K in my pocket.

And what did he recommend or suggest? His advice may help others who are planning.

His advice was spot on as in bring some cash but that this trip wouldn't require a large amount. We each brought several thousand and returned with most of it. Taxidermy is being sorted out now.

In more than one European Country, owners/managers are more than happy to be paid with non traceable means (i.e. credit cards, traveller checks or personal checks) just to escape the income tax.
I am sure that the income tax office is aware of the situation but closes (one eye) at least.
Obviously, if you hunt in an estate belonging to a State controlled organisation (e.g. the french Office National des Forets) the only accepted payment is a bank transfer.

You can trans money to any country that has banks.

Some use IBAN and some use SWIFT.

Makes no difference, just ask for their account number and bank details.

That is it.

you will not escape the income tax unless you re using cash ... personal check, credit card and traveller are not anonymous and very easily traceable: cash is not ...

Exactly, Europe is strict on taxes so their tax depts will know if you have hunter and they know how much so cash is strictly good for tips
Sure, there is exceptions to the rules but few and far between

We went to a concert the other night. It was great, my man Trombone Shorty rocked the place.

But they would not accept cash for anything. Only credit cards!

They actually had machines there into which one could insert cash and get prepaid credit cards in return!

Then one could use the credit cards to buy food, drinks and other stuff at the concert.

Never saw that before.

Everything is going digital nowadays, even money.

Government wants every penny, simple as that
So they can blow it on plenty of nonsense
Many European countries have anywhere from 15 to 23% VAT besides all the income taxes
