For Polish I don't know. But for Czech I have a translation page: http://www.slovnik.cz/ Their languages do have the same root. So the polish may not be so different. Best regards

In 1999 i hunted roebuck in Poland. I have been looking in the "Protokol" that i received at the end of the hunting and i believe the Polish word for >Roebuck is ROGACZ. Wild boar is DJZIK. Some of my friends learned some other words that i do not want to publish here...

The roebuck is in Polish "rogacz" or "koziol". The species is called "sarna" with the female "koza" I am glad to help anyone regarding this or other matters dealing with hunting in Poland.

Hey Pawel, Do you hunt also or do you have other shooting activities in Poland? Can you own a handgun in Poland? Greetings, Dirk from Flanders

Pawel, I was wondering what part of Poland you live in. My wife is from Wroclaw and am planning on visiting there soon and was wondering about hunting opportunities around that area or within a reasonable distance. Thanks. Barry

dirk_scout, Yes we hunt in Poland. Tke main game is roe deer, red deer and wild boars. We also hunt hares, ducks and pheasants. You can own a hundgun in Poland providing you obtain a gun licence from the police. Generally you must convince the police that there is a specific need for you to own a hungun eg. you are a member of a sport club or that you need one for self defence. Ther is a number of shooting events oganized specially for hunters involving rifle and shotgun. druho, I live in Lodz taht is central Poland, some 200 kms NE of Wroclaw. When do plan to visit Poland? What would you like to hunt? I may try to find some opportunities here.

Pawel, I am still unsure of a timeframe when I will be visiting. I guess the question is when is the hunting season for animals like the roe and red deer and boars? That would be the main things I would be interested in hunting. Also, how easy would it be to bring my own weapons or would it be more appropriate to hire them while over there? Barry

Barry, Roe deer season starts on May 15th and lasts till end of September. The best time to hunt is the beginning of the season as there is little foliage and the animals feed intensivly. Even better is end of July till mid August during the rut. Red deer stags are hunted from August 22nd till end of Feb. with the best season starting 10th Sept till 10th Oct during the roar. Boars are hunted from 1st April till end of Feb. During 1st April till August 15th females are banned, so the best season starts in Sept with driven hunts during the winter. Foreigners can hunt in Poland only through specielized outfitters and then you get necessary permits to bring your guns without any problems. Unfortunatell it is illegal for any Polish hunter to invite and hunt with a foreigner in my hunting club (this of course can be arranged through an outfitter. If you make up your mind when you would ike to hunt in Poland and what species I will give you names of good outfitters.

Pawel, Thank you a lot for the information. I will keep in touch and let you know when I will be coming over far enough in advance I will be able to contact a outfitter and get things in order. By the way, what kind of prices are we looking at for each of the different species as far as outfitter fees, license, etc? Thanks again. Barry

Barry, I will get a pricelist for you, as the amount a hunting club receives is different from what you will have to pay.
