Gentlemen,
Which country and outfit would an American choose to visit to take a pair of decent roebuck with a chance for a nice boar thrown in for good measure? And when would be the optimal time to hunt them? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

My choice would by Hungary or Poland. To find a Trophy wild Boar is not easy during a roe deer hunt . Normaly roe deer hunts starts early in the season around 15.4 when vegetation is low or in the rut 1-2 weeks in august. Trophy wild Boar are shoot usally during the moon phase Oct-Jan.
Hungary has very fine roe deer hunt oportunitys check www.molnarjagd.hu the can arrange hunts with trophy weight up to over 700g

Put also Romania in the list of countries, and feel free to contact me for any help in Romania and Hungary (I've been in Hungary with: CrystalTours Kft., good friends). I agree with mboga biga bwana/SelousHunter for the other info, even if I suggest for the boar Dec/Jan preferably with the snow during the full moon phase.

All in all it would be a roebuck hunt with boar as a game of opportunity as you said (hardly the other way around). Early in the roebuck season (May - June) boars will be visiting meadows at nights looking for maggots (proteins). Later in the season (from August on...) boars can be regular guests in the corn fields or near mud-bath holes.

So find a good hunting ground with both species present in good numbers (especialy boars since roebucks are pretty common everywhere), look for the dates of rising moon - you will probably be stalking in the mornings for the roebuck and waiting in the treestands in the afternoons for roebuck and prolonging the wait through the night for boar.

My pick would be Hungary or Croatia.

How about - Estonia?
I guess you might be a little late for this year as the boar and roe season are currently in full swing. The roe closes at 30th of nov (bucks in 30th of sept., but thats due to change to 30th nov. too next year) and the boar season goes on technically year-round (driven hunts and hunting with dogs from 01.10 until 28.02).
We certainly have no shortage of boars, our area (roughly 38 000 acres) alone has a preliminary limit of around 80, but usually it will be increased to around 120 during the season. Plus we dont have any fenced areas, it`s all as wild as it can get.

Interested? The easiest and probably the most professional option is to hunt in the state reserves.

Thanks for the help, gentlemen. You've given me some excellent advice and some places to research!
