Will arrive in London on the 18th of November and go to the Orkney's for a few days. Would love to set up a hunt along the way. Can anyone point me in the right direction on this. Do I need to join BASC first? Any help would be wonderful. Thanks

I can't think of any reason why you would need to join BASC for such a trip.

At that time of year, you will probably stalking Red hinds or Roe does. Figure on spending around £100 to £150 per day on the Hinds and quite a bit less for the Roe does.

Those would be "commercial" rates and iclude the borrowing of a rifle ect. If some one on here has contacts up in Scotland you might very well get a better deal...You should also buy a Game License which will cost you about $10 over the counter of the local Post Office.

some guides/stalkers will insist on BASC membership for insurance purposes. BASC,Scottish sportsman"s association or possibly Countryside alliance all have a large public liability as part of member"s benefits.
i personally would"nt set foot out the door without it.

I doubt they would insist a visting American join the BASC, and if they are running a commercial stalking operation, both they and those that stalk with them, should be covered by the stalkers own "commercial" insurance..I think its known as public liability insurance.

In my own dealings in the past, I don't ever recall being asked if I had insurance when I've booked a day or two's acompanied stalking, only when I've gone for leases or block lets...

How do you plan on getting from London to the Orkneys? I used to drive from North Wales to Aberdeen which I guesstimate is a third of the distance your talking about and that would take around 6 1/2 hours..You'll have to factor in ferries ect as well..

and 3 back. Last time we took the ferry from John O'Groats??? We have about 12 days to work with. Are you close to Caernarfon? Spent 5 days in that area 2 years back. Beautiful.
